Bhubaneswar: No vehicle will be towed until further order, assured Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das following news coverage by Kalinga TV on the controversy regarding parking slots on Janpath Road and illegal collection of fines today.

It is to be noted here that controversy regarding parking slots on Janpath Road erupted after BMC on June 12 issued a new notification to impose a hefty fine for parking vehicles on Janpath Road and an agency has been entrusted to collect the fines.

However, due to lack of public awareness of the new decision of the BMC, people continue to park their vehicles at the designated parking slots. And to their surprise, thousands of rupees were collected from them as fines. In some cases, the vehicles were also towed by the agency.

After many people raised questions over the decision of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation to collect fines for parking even at the prior designated parking slots, Kalinga TV highlighted the matter earlier today.

Following the media coverage, Das informed that BMC has decided not to tow vehicles from the Janpath stretch anymore until the public is aware of correct information. We are also being careful so that people do not face any trouble of paying fines for parking vehicles in no-parking zones, she said while speaking to Kalinga TV in an exclusive interview,

The BMC Mayor also admitted that the concerned agency has been illegally collecting money by writing a ‘no parking sign’ at the parking slots on the Janpath Road. She also assured to look into the matter and take appropriate action.
