Odisha Government Expands Cashless Cancer Treatment with 91 New ABPMJAY-GJAY Packages

Odisha has expanded the scope of cashless cancer treatment under its integrated Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (ABPMJAY) and Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY), adding 91 specialised oncology packages that significantly widen access to advanced cancer care across the state.

With the latest inclusion, beneficiaries can now avail treatment under 2,254 healthcare packages, up from the 2,163 packages that were available when the unified ABPMJAY-GJAY programme was rolled out in Odisha.

Announcing the decision, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling said the newly introduced oncology treatments have been incorporated into the master package list as special state packages after receiving approval from the National Health Authority (NHA). He said the government is committed to ensuring that every eligible cancer patient receives high-quality, cashless super-speciality care and is not denied treatment because of financial constraints.

The additional packages cover a broad spectrum of specialised cancer services, including complex surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, oncology procedures and multidisciplinary treatment protocols. The expansion is intended to strengthen access to comprehensive cancer care as the disease continues to place a significant medical and financial burden on families.

The initiative has been undertaken as part of the Mukhyamantri Cancer Care Abhiyan, through which the state is building a wider cancer care ecosystem. In the 2026-27 Budget, the Odisha government has earmarked ₹311 crore for the programme, with funding allocated for free treatment, awareness campaigns, mobile screening camps, digital hubs developed under the hub-and-spoke model, and free transportation facilities for patients.

Authorities have instructed all empanelled hospitals to begin providing cashless treatment under the newly added cancer packages, allowing eligible beneficiaries to access the expanded services without out-of-pocket expenses.

The latest expansion reflects the state’s continued effort to strengthen public healthcare by widening insurance coverage for critical illnesses. By increasing the number of specialised treatment packages and reinforcing cashless access across empanelled hospitals, the Odisha government aims to ensure that eligible residents can obtain quality cancer care without the added burden of prohibitive medical costs.
