Goddess Samaleswari of Sambalpur wears Dhabalmukhi Besha on Mahalaya today, watch
by Himanshu · KalingaTVSambalpur: Goddess Samaleshwari, the presiding deity of Sambalpur, wore the famous ‘Dhabalmukhi Besha’ on Wednesday on the occasion of Mahalaya.
Goddess Samalei wears this attire only once in a year while on other days across the year she wears the ‘Sindurabarna’ besha.
Dhabala means white and ‘mukh’ means face. Hence, the Goddess is today available for darshan in the white attire, which is compared with River Ganga. It is believed that when devotees have a glimpse of the Goddess in the Dhabalmukhi besha they can be blessed with the virtue of having Ganga Darshan.
It is believed that on the last day of the Pitru Pakshya if someone gets the glimpse of the Goddess in Dhabalmukhi besha, she also gets the virtue of Ganga darshan and accordingly his ancestors get peace in their heavenly abode.
Goddess Samaleshwari is giving darshan to the devotees in the Dhabalamukhi Besha today.
On Mahalaya people take a holy bath in the Ganga River or in Gaya following Pinda Dan. However, it is believed that those who cannot go to Ganga or Gaya, they can still reap the same virtue by getting a glimpse of Maa Samleswari in the Dhabalamukhi Besha.
Thousands of devotees have formed a long queue at the shrine of Maa Samaleshwari in Sambalpur to have darshan of the Goddess in Dhabalmukhi Besha.
Extensive arrangements have been made by the police and the temple administration to regulate Maa Sameleswari’s this appearance in the temple.
On the other hand, in view of the crowd of devotees, the temple trust board has arranged barricades. Mother’s special Mahaalati is also performed on this occasion. Mother will give darshan to the devotees in this attire for two days.
