With Storm Dave hitting over Easter Weekend, leaving a peak of 18,000 without power on Saturday night, what does the weather hold for the rest of the week?

In short, the weather is expected to be generally quite mixed, with sunny spells and hail and sleet alike forecast in the national outlook for the next few days.

Conditions are set to improve for the most part, however.

Temperatures are expected to be mild, but return to more normal values later in the week.

For Sunday, Met Éireann forecast sunny spells and scattered showers early in the evening, but they should mostly die out by nightfall.

Early on Sunday night will be dry with clear spells, with cloud building from the west overnight and a few spots of drizzle moving onto western coasts.

Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees are expected on Sunday night, coldest in Ulster and north Leinster, with frost developing. Light variable winds are to become southerly and increase from moderate to fresh by morning.

In the aftermath of the storm, Met Éireann have forecast a mainly dry Easter Monday, with a good deal of cloud.

A few sunny breaks are anticipated, mainly in the east, and some patchy light rain and drizzle will occur, mainly in Atlantic coastal counties.

Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees are expected during the day on Monday, with moderate to fresh south to southeast winds, strong at times near the southwest coast.

The eastern half of the country is expected to be dry and mostly clear through Monday night, but variable cloud further west with some showery outbreaks of rain moving in towards morning is forecast, with lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in moderate, occasional fresh southeast winds.

On Tuesday, sunny spells in the east in the morning are expected to give way to cloudier conditions with showery outbreaks of rain pushing up from the south, heavy or thundery at times, but easing in the evening.

Highest temperatures during the day are expected to be between 13 and 16 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh southeast winds, easing light to moderate in the afternoon.

Plenty of cloud and limited clear spells with some patchy light rain are forecast for Tuesday night, but mostly dry overall. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees in light southwesterly or variable breezes are expected.

A mix of cloud and sunny spells with isolated showers are forecast on Wednesday morning, and during the afternoon, cloud will build from the west as a spell of rain pushes in over the northwestern half of the country later, tracking eastwards overnight.

Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly breezes are anticipated.

That rain in the east is expected to clear early on Thursday morning, though, with sunny spells and scattered showers following, some heavy or thundery in the early afternoon.

The showers are forecast to become isolated for the evening, with highest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees with fresh and gusty northwesterly winds developing for a time.
