Twilight Princess now has a native PC port
by Grant St. Clair · Boing BoingAhh, Twilight Princess. None of the Legend of Zelda games are particularly mature, but Twilight Princess feels like the most earnest attempt at it. After initial fan complaints about the bright and cartoony The Wind Waker, Nintendo overcorrected in the most comically over-the-top way possible, giving us a dark and gritty tale about Link transforming into a badass feral werewolf that was only missing a score by Evanescence.
Unfortunately, Nintendo's love of game preservation (pause for sarcastic laughter) has struck once again. There's no way to play Twilight Princess without owning a GameCube, a Wii, or (pause again for retching) a Wii U. On PC, your only option are emulators… or used to be emulators, rather. Another ambitious Nintendo game decompilation project has borne fruit: hot on the heels of the Banjo-Kazooie PC port released earlier this year, a native Twilight Princess port is here.
Project Dusk has been six years in the making, but finally brings Twilight Princess to PC with all the features you'd expect from a modern port, including support for higher resolution, enhanced graphics, handheld compatibility, quality of life changes, and even gyro aiming. As with Banjo-Kazooie before it, you have to provide your own Twilight Princess ROM to use its assets… but if you were thinking of emulating anyway, that's probably not an issue.
