Atari is doing furry bait now and I'm scared
by Grant St. Clair · Boing BoingAt a certain point you just have to give it to ancient, flagging games company Atari just for continuing to throw shit at the wall. With the much-lauded "Atari gaming hotel" currently existing as nothing more than an AI-generated pitch deck that everyone and their mother rightly clowned on, the time has apparently come for the next scheme.
Did you know that Atari owns the rights to Bubsy, one of the million platformer mascots of the 90s who's only noteworthy because of how uniquely terrible his games are? I didn't either until I stumbled across official art of him throwing it back on my Bluesky timeline this morning.
"Oblivia told me to get a dump truck but where am I gonna find THAT in a yoga class, huh?"

Appealing to AI-loving tech bros have failed, so Atari is pivoting to what might be the exact opposite demographic: furries. Note the paw print profile picture. Granted, when you have a new Bubsy game on the horizon, you want to try and get your cat's name on as many lips as possible, but come on, the feet pics feel gratuitous.
"Pheeeew!~ This OnlyPaws business definitely took it outta me… What's a cat gotta do around here to become a star huh?"

Hopefully, furries will have more self-respect than to buy Bubsy 4D just because the protagonist flashes his paws. Feel free to crucify me for this, but Bubsy isn't even that hot, and the air of desperation surrounding these posts doesn't help matters.
