New Delhi, Nov 29: Taragiri (Yard 12653), the fourth ship of the Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) and the third built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilding Ltd (MDL), was formally handed over to the Indian Navy in Mumbai.

The delivery marks a key milestone in India’s drive towards self-reliance in warship design and construction.

Designed by the Warship Design Bureau and built under the Integrated Construction methodology, Taragiri represents a major advancement in naval technology. The frigate is equipped with enhanced stealth features, superior firepower, advanced automation and improved survivability. It is the reincarnation of the former INS Taragiri, a Leander-class frigate that served the Navy for 33 years from 1980 to 2013.

Project 17A frigates are multi-mission platforms built to tackle evolving maritime challenges.
