Srinagar, Nov 29: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg on Saturday said that a multidisciplinary committee has been constituted to frame a comprehensive strategy for improving traffic management and urban mobility in Srinagar city.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Divisional Commissioner Garg as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC said that the committee’s main objective is to make the city’s traffic movement smoother, efficient, and better organized. “This multidisciplinary committee comprises Srinagar Smart City Ltd, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Srinagar Development Authority, KMRT, Police Department, SSP Traffic, PWD, R&B, and Transport Department, among others,” he said.

Garg said that all key stakeholders have been brought together to collectively work on improving traffic parameters and infrastructure. “We are working in coordination to ensure that the traffic management system is upgraded. But to make it truly effective, it is equally important to take on board all local stakeholders including residents, street vendors, shopkeepers, business associations, and transporters,” he said.

He added that several major initiatives are underway under the Srinagar Smart City project, including installation of integrated traffic management systems, upgraded traffic lights, and development of better parking facilities. “We are also focusing on improving junctions, rotaries, and developing multi-level parking structures to decongest core city areas,” he said.

Highlighting a key development, Garg said that nearly 300 designated bus stop locations have been finalized across Srinagar to streamline public transport operations.

“The district administration has been notified about these sites so that buses halt only at the identified points, ensuring smoother and disciplined movement,” he said.

He said the field visit carried out today was part of the broader exercise to prepare an effective, city-specific traffic plan. “Representatives from various sectors including the Chamber of Commerce, Transporters’ Association, and local bodies participated in the visit. Their feedback will play a crucial role in shaping a system that’s efficient, inclusive, and sustainable for Srinagar,” Garg said.
