Yamaha Aerox Electric Launch

At a price point of Rs 2.82 lakh (Ex-sh), the just launched Aerox E is currently Yamaha Motor’s most expensive product in the country. For context, standard Aerox 155 is almost half the price, at Rs 1,44,530 (Ex-sh). Both Aerox 155 and Aerox E share almost every body panel and design attributes. Availability is currently limited to Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai.

Elements like the keyless go, smart key, twin LED headlights, LED tail lights, layered apron design, single-piece seat and a non-step-through design with a spine in the middle. Similar front storage spaces and practicality along with rider’s triangle is offered with both scooters to establish familiarity.

Cycle parts like telescopic front forks, rear twin shockers, 14-inch alloy wheels, 110-section front and 140-section rear tyre, front disc brake with ABS. What Aerox E offers extra, is LED turn indicators, a rear disc brake and a fully digital TFT instrument cluster with app support enabling features like weather, notifications, music control and navigation.

Electric Powertrain

The primary distinction is that Aerox E is an electric scooter with an electric powertrain. The premium-priced electric scooter gets removable battery packs, two in number with 3 kWh total capacity. These battery packs are 1.5 kWh each, housed under the seat beneath a plastic door. Each battery pack has a digital display to show battery SOC, same is shown in cluster as well.

Promised range is 117 km only and even the weight is 13 kg higher than that of Aerox 155. The spine is where the charging port is and it also has a cavity where off-board charger can be stored along with its cable. There is a single electric motor with around 13 bhp of peak power and 48 Nm of torque, driving rear wheels via a belt drive.

There are three riding modes – Eco, Standard and Power. Yamaha has included a Boost Mode which can be toggled on by a dedicated toggle on the switchgear. With Boost Mode, full performance is activated, but only for very short bursts. Yamaha’s more affordable (relatively) and objectively more practical EC-06 is priced at Rs 1.67 lakh (Ex-sh).
