by Pearl Daniels · RushLaneSkoda sales grew 13.66% YoY, while Volkswagen declined 16.04%. Upcoming sedan updates and a new VW compact SUV will be important additions to their portfolios
Skoda and Volkswagen recorded contrasting domestic sales results in August 2026. Skoda registered 5,650 units, growing 13.66% from 4,971 units in August 2025. Volkswagen reported 2,283 units, down 16.04% from 2,719 units a year earlier. Combined sales stood at 7,933 units, up 3.17% from 7,690 units in August 2025. However, both brands declined month-on-month. Against July’s combined tally of 8,424 units, volumes fell 5.83%, with Volkswagen accounting for most of the reduction.
Skoda Sales Breakup Aug 2026 – Kylaq Contributes Over 63%
Kylaq remained Skoda’s largest volume contributor, recording 3,590 units in August. Sales increased 15.84% from 3,099 units a year earlier, although they declined 3.68% compared to July’s 3,727 units. The compact SUV accounted for 63.54% of Skoda’s monthly volumes.
Kushaq followed with 1,048 units, growing 32.83% YoY from 789 units and 25.81% MoM from 833 units. It was the only Skoda model to improve over July and contributed 18.55% of the brand’s August sales. Slavia recorded 897 units, down 11.01% from 1,008 units in August 2025. Compared to July’s 993 units, sales declined 9.67%. The sedan accounted for 15.88% of Skoda’s volumes ahead of its upcoming update.
Kodiaq completed the lineup with 115 units. This represented growth of 53.33% over August 2025’s 75 units, but a decline of 26.28% from July’s 156 units. Overall, Skoda’s sales slipped 1.03% month-on-month, with Kushaq’s gains partially offsetting declines elsewhere.
Volkswagen Sales – Virtus Remains Ahead Of Taigun
Virtus continued to lead Volkswagen’s sales, registering 1,301 units and accounting for 56.99% of the brand’s total. However, volumes fell 22.28% from 1,674 units a year earlier and 8.38% from July’s 1,420 units. Taigun recorded 938 units, down 6.29% YoY from 1,001 units. Its monthly decline was sharper at 23.43%, compared to 1,225 units in July. The SUV contributed 41.09% of Volkswagen’s August volumes.
Together, Virtus and Taigun accounted for approximately 98% of Volkswagen’s sales, underlining the brand’s dependence on these two models. Tayron added 42 units, compared to 45 units in July, while Tiguan recorded just two units. Golf registered no sales during the month. Volkswagen’s total declined 15.91% month-on-month, losing 432 units compared to July. Taigun alone accounted for 287 units of that reduction.
Kushaq Improves, Taigun Yet To Gain Momentum
Despite the introduction of updated Kushaq and Taigun models earlier this year, their August volumes remained relatively modest at a combined 1,986 units. Their individual performances differed, however: Kushaq grew on both yearly and monthly comparisons, while Taigun declined on both.
The figures therefore suggest an uneven response rather than a uniform slowdown across the two SUVs. Kylaq remains the stronger volume driver, outselling Kushaq and Taigun combined by a considerable margin.
Sedan Updates And New Compact SUV Ahead
The next launches will focus on the sedan portfolio. The updated Slavia has already been showcased, with its launch planned in the coming days. An updated Virtus is expected in the coming weeks, giving both brands an opportunity to renew interest in their sedans.
Volkswagen has also confirmed a new sub-4-metre SUV based on the Kylaq, scheduled for next year. Kylaq’s contribution to Skoda’s sales highlights the potential importance of a smaller SUV in Volkswagen’s lineup.
Separately, JSW Group and Skoda Auto Volkswagen India have signed a non-binding MoU for a proposed 51:49 joint venture, with JSW holding the majority stake, focused on mass-market vehicles in India. The agreement represents a proposed partnership rather than a completed transaction. Alongside the upcoming launches, it could shape the group’s longer-term expansion in the country.
