New BMW F 450 R

The new naked roadster shares its platform with the TVS-manufactured F 450 GS, combining a 175 kg ready-to-ride weight with an available Easy Ride Clutch

BMW Motorrad has unveiled the F 450 R, expanding its entry-level parallel-twin lineup beyond the F 450 GS. The new motorcycle brings the same 420cc engine platform to a naked roadster, offering a more compact, street-focused alternative to the adventure model.

Roadster Styling And Accessible Dimensions

New F 450 R adopts an aggressive naked-bike design, with angular tank extensions, an LED headlight with bracket-shaped DRLs and a stepped split-seat arrangement. A tapered aluminium handlebar and compact bodywork reinforce its street-focused positioning.

Ready-to-ride weight stands at 175 kg. The standard seat is 790 mm high, with optional low and high seats offering 775 mm and 810 mm respectively. Fuel tank is 14 liters, and claimed mileage of 26.3 kmpl.

420cc Parallel-Twin Engine

It gets the same 420cc engine on offer with 450 GS, with same specs. The liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine with dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder delivers 48 hp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm at 6,750 rpm. Transmission is taken care by a 6 speed gearbox.

Four Variants And Easy Ride Clutch

BMW has announced Base, Exclusive, M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package configurations. Exclusive adds Shift Assistant Pro and Sport suspension, while M Sport also includes Riding Modes Pro.

The Innovation Package introduces Easy Ride Clutch, or ERC. Combined with Shift Assistant Pro, it allows riders to move off, stop and change gears without operating the clutch lever. Riders continue to select gears themselves, and the lever remains available for manual use. Same feature we had seen with the 450 GS.

Electronics And Chassis

The chassis uses a tubular steel space frame, an upside-down front fork and an aluminium double-sided swingarm. Rear spring preload and rebound damping are adjustable. The roadster rides on 17-inch cast-aluminium wheels, with single-disc brakes at both ends.

Rain, Road and Dynamic riding modes are standard. Riding Modes Pro adds an individually configurable Dynamic Pro setting. Electronic aids include cornering-capable ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control and engine drag torque control. A 6.5-inch TFT display, connectivity functions, heated grips, USB-C charging and all-LED lighting are also included.

India Launch Could Follow In 2027

TVS began manufacturing the F 450 GS in India in November 2025. Its European introduction followed in early 2026, before the Indian launch in April. That sequence suggests a gap of a few months between overseas and Indian availability could be possible for the roadster too.

Early 2027 remains an estimate, with local pricing and variants awaited. For reference, the F 450 GS now costs Rs 4.95–5.60 lakh, ex-sh. Pricing of the 450 R could be in the Rs 4.5 lakh range.
