New Tata Altroz Spied – E85 or Turbo Racer

With the Punch facelift launched in 2026, Tata Motors stunned the country by offering this mini SUV with a Turbo Petrol option for the first time. This was a totally unexpected move from the brand and it reflects Tata Motors’ will to offer exciting products to customers. But what about the expected Turbo offering that never launched?

We’re talking about the Tata Altroz Racer which only saw a small lifecycle in the country. A MY25 equivalent of Altroz Racer based on the new facelifted standard Altroz was never launched. Tata Motors could be fixing the same as new Altroz test mules spark speculations of Altroz Racer revival.

New Tata Altroz Spied Testing – Is It A Turbo Racer?

Team-BHPian Neeraj1903 posted pictures of a Tata Altroz in full camouflage. They claimed that this was not a top-spec version either. There is an exhaust present at the rear, suggesting that this is not the coveted Altroz EV, but an ICE version instead. This leaves us with two possibilities – Turbo Racer or E85 Altroz Flex Fuel.

Tata Motors is expected to launch their first-ever Flex Fuel vehicle by the end of this year and testing might have started ahead of the launch. However, we wish this test mule is testing a Turbo Petrol engine below its bonnet and reviving the Racer nameplate based on the newer facelifted standard Altroz.

It has to be noted that there are a lot of features missing on standard Altroz which were offered with pre-facelift Altroz Racer. We wish these make their way to Altroz Racer or Altroz Turbo (not confirmed). These missing features include ventilated seats, 6-speed manual gearbox, all-black interior option and a Turbo engine.

Currently, Tata offers two versions of its turbocharged 1.2L 3-cylinder engine – Revotron and Hyperion. Revotron Turbo packs around 118 bhp of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque and then we have the Hyperion Turbo engine which brings 123 bhp and 225 Nm. Pre-facelift Altroz Racer came with Revotron Turbo engine, with a sole 6-speed manual gearbox.

Could It be E85 Flex Fuel?

We wish the new Altroz Racer based on the facelift version comes with the Hyperion engine along with an automatic gearbox option (7DCA or 6DCA). There is a possibility of this being Tata’s E85 technology testing as well. The company showcased a flex fuel version of Punch at the 2025 Auto Expo, but more vehicles may be testing this technology.

Tata Altroz Racer (Pre-Facelift)

Flex Fuel versions will come with upgraded fuel storage, fuel supply and fuel injector systems along with a dedicated ECU. All these ensure optimum conditions to combust fuel blends of up to E85 (85% Ethanol). Tata Motors has not announced that Altroz Turbo Racer or Altroz E85 Flex Fuel versions are under development.
