Hyundai has unveiled the all-new Tucson for North America during a world premiere event in New York City. A ‘sport-inspired’ version is also in store, which is likely to be a new N-Line model.
New Tucson – Powertrain options
Most accessible versions of the 5th-gen Tucson will be using either a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine or a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine. Power output will be in the range of 150-193 PS, whereas torque is 191 Nm to 264 Nm. Transmission choices for pure petrol variants of new Tucson include 6MT, 7DCT, 8AT and 6AT. Both 2WD and 4WD options will be available.
Hybrid variant of new Tucson will use the 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine in combination with two electric motors of 13 kW and 47.7 kW. It will be equipped with a 6AT transmission. Combined output is in the range of 236 to 245 PS, whereas torque is 380 Nm. Hybrid Tucson will be using a 1.49 kWh battery pack. It can achieve 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.
New Tucson Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model uses the same 1.6-litre engine, in combination with two electric motors of 13 kW and 79 kW. It uses a 6AT transmission. Combined power and torque output is 292 PS and 380 Nm. Tucson PHEV uses a 17.1 kWh battery pack, offering a pure electric range of 81 km. Available in 4WD, the PHEV can reach 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
New Tucson XRT Pro variant uses all-terrain tyres, front recovery hooks and more aggressive approach and departure angles. It has 210 mm of ground clearance, which is 30 mm more than the standard variant. XRT Pro has enhanced lower body protection with the expanded cladding package.
Art of Steel design
New Tucson is based on Hyundai’s ‘Art of Steel’ design language, which has ensured a striking and commanding presence for the SUV. The long wheelbase model is 4,700 mm long, 1,905 mm wide and 1,685 mm tall. That’s a gain of 60 mm in length, 40 mm in width and 20 mm in height, as compared to the previous model.
Four new colour options have been introduced – Ranger Green Pearl/Matte, Kodiak Blue Pearl, Driftwood Gray Metallic/Matte and Red Rock Orange Pearl/Matte. Key features of new Tucson include H-style lighting elements at the front and rear, rugged bumper design and sharp, angular panelling all across. The SUV has squared wheel arches, aero-optimized sporty alloy wheels and conventional door handles.
High on tech
One of the key updates for new Tucson is the advanced Pleos Connect, Hyundai Motor’s Android Automotive OS (AAOS)-based infotainment system. It comprises a 17-inch or a 12.9-inch primary touchscreen and a 9.9-inch slim display. Pleos is designed for a seamless experience and it also reduces driver distraction with intuitive UI/UX features and gesture controls.
New Tucson also gets Gleo AI, an integrated agentic AI system. It can engage in natural conversations, understand user context and handle various tasks via voice commands. Other key features include dual 15W wireless charging pads, three-zone AC and OTA updates. A robust safety package is available, which includes Level 2+ ADAS.
