TVS 160cc Maxi Scooter Launch Next Year – Aerox, Xoom 160 Rival
by Akshay Kulkarni · RushLaneTVS Motor launched the Ntorq 150 last year and positioned it as a sporty scooter above the Ntorq 125 with an air-cooled engine. However, enthusiasts and prospective audience were sort of expecting a step up from the Ntorq platform. A step in terms of performance and engine refinement along with a step in engine technology.
Cutting it short, a maxi-scooter with a liquid-cooled engine and wind protection for highway use. A maxi-scooter with larger wheels at 14-inch or even bigger to take on rivals like Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160 (which launched later). TVS Motor seems to be doing just that with an upcoming 160cc Ntorq scooter, as per a recent report.
New TVS Ntorq 160 Maxi Scooter
After the launch of Ntorq 150, TVS Motor seems to be working on a new and larger scooter. Larger in terms of engine displacement and larger in terms of size and dimensions. That is because this upcoming big displacement scooter from TVS is reportedly a 160cc maxi scooter which will take on rivals like Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160.
As per the recent report, this upcoming 160cc maxi scooter from TVS should probably be ready by next year. The company is formulating this maxi scooter to cater to premium scooter buyers that are looking for a step up from current offerings with an air-cooled engine. In comparison, Ntorq 150 feels like an upgraded Ntorq 125 and not a lot more.
This premium scooter segment is also witnessing more demand and even Honda, India’s best-selling scooter manufacturer, is also speculated to dive into this segment with ADV 160. Yamaha is expected to launch NMax 155 scooter in India too, which is more of a maxi scooter than Aerox 155, which is like a sporty / maxi scooter.
TVS Motor could take multiple design directions here, but there is a good probability that they will follow the broader Ntorq design language which is sporty and edgy. There could be optimum wind protection for highway tours like we see in Hero Xoom 160.
What to expect?
Also, TVS has to make a decision whether to go for a central spine or not. We say this because TVS Motor has already pioneered scooter packaging by offering a fuel tank behind the apron in Jupiter, unlocking massive under-seat storage and then a flat floorboard for practicality. A 14-inch scooter platform with a longer wheelbase is expected too.
We wish TVS Motor breaks the stereotype of touchscreen clusters limited to mainstream electric scooters only. RTX 300 was already the perfect candidate to feature a glove-compatible touchscreen cluster with 4G and HERE maps, but that is sadly not the case. We wish TVS offers a dashcam and dual headlights too, with switchable colour temperatures (White, Yellow).
Also, a boot deep enough to accommodate fancy full-face helmets would be a nice feature to draw in enthusiasts. Disc brakes at the rear would be much-appreciated by the community as well. There are no spy shots of TVS’s upcoming 160cc maxi scooter leaked yet, which could change soon.
