Tata Car Sales Sep 2026 At 68,810 – Record Quarter, EV + CNG Share 51%

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles recorded domestic sales of 68,810 units in September 2026, registering 15.32% growth over 59,667 units a year earlier. Volumes also increased 5.45% compared with August 2026’s 65,253 units, adding 3,557 vehicles sequentially.
The September performance helped Tata close its highest-ever quarter, with combined domestic and international sales reaching 2,01,723 units during July–September 2026. According to Shailesh Chandra, MD and CEO, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, Punch also emerged as India’s highest-selling SUV during the quarter.
Tata September Sales Grow
Domestic passenger vehicle sales increased by 9,143 units over September 2025. Exports also improved, reaching 1,400 units compared with 1,240 units a year earlier, translating to 12.90% growth. Combined domestic and international sales stood at 70,210 units, up 15.27% from 60,907 units in September 2025. Domestic operations contributed the bulk of the additional 9,303 vehicles sold during the month.
EV Sales Rise 67% In September
Tata recorded total electric vehicle sales of 15,384 units in September, compared with 9,191 units a year earlier. This represents an increase of 6,193 units, or 67.38%, comfortably outpacing overall passenger vehicle growth.
EVs accounted for approximately 21.91% of total monthly passenger vehicle volumes, compared with 15.09% in September 2025. They also contributed around two-thirds of the overall annual volume increase, highlighting their growing importance to Tata’s business.
Highest-Ever Quarterly Sales Cross 2 Lakh
For July–September 2026, corresponding to Q2 FY2026–27, Tata’s total passenger vehicle sales reached 2,01,723 units. This compares with 1,44,397 units in the corresponding quarter last year, an increase of 57,326 units or 39.70%.
Domestic sales grew 40.29% to 1,96,674 units from 1,40,189 units. Quarterly exports increased 19.99% to 5,049 units, compared with 4,208 units a year earlier. Chandra described Q2 FY27 as Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles’ highest-ever quarter, with strong customer response across the portfolio.
EVs And CNG Contribute 51% Of Quarterly Sales
Tata’s electric vehicle business also achieved its highest-ever quarterly sales. Volumes reached 47,150 units, growing 89.70% over 24,855 units in July–September 2025. EV penetration in Tata’s portfolio rose to approximately 23%, which Chandra compared with around 8% for the industry. Electric vehicles contributed 22,295 units to the company’s quarterly growth, accounting for nearly 39% of the overall volume gain.
CNG vehicles delivered their highest-ever quarterly sales as well, accounting for 28% of Tata’s volumes. Together, EV and CNG models contributed 51%, meaning more than half of the company’s quarterly sales came from these two powertrain categories.
Chandra attributed this changing sales mix to growing customer preference for greener mobility. With record quarterly volumes, a larger EV contribution and Punch leading SUV sales according to the company, Tata enters the festive period with momentum across multiple parts of its portfolio.
