Mahindra Vision SXT Design Patented – Thar Pickup?
by Akshay Kulkarni · RushLaneAt the Freedom NU event held in Mumbai on August 15th, 2025, Mahindra showcased four concept vehicles. Vision S is among these four and will be the first one to make it to production and extensive testing of this sub 4m SUV is taking place too. However, the wildest of these four concepts is definitely the Vision SXT.
It encapsulates the DNA of Bolero Invader of the past, but is like a pickup truck version of Thar Roxx SUV. Now, Mahindra Auto has patented the design of Vision SXT in India. It has to be noted that these patents look like they are of concept version of Vision SXT showcased last year and not production-spec version.
Mahindra Vision SXT Design
While Mahindra has not confirmed it, SXT could mean a crossover between a Scorpio and a Thar, while Vision T is speculated to be showcasing a future electric 5-Door Thar. In terms of design, Vision SXT resembles the Vision T in many ways. They share the same clamshell bonnet, rugged and boxy silhouette and most of their sheet metal panels.
Vision SXT gets a unique front fascia with a slightly smaller grille with contrasting Grey elements. It also gets a unique front bumper, unique bash plates and ditches the electric winch and fog lights seen with Vision T. With Vision SXT, we can see ORVMs replaced with futuristic rear view cameras and the same are present in the latest design patents too.
From the sides, Vision T and Vision SXT share almost everything except for their wheels up until the C Pillars. From here, SXT sets itself apart by offering an open luggage area, like in a pickup truck. However, the loading bay is not very long like in a pickup truck, but the idea is not new as Mahindra used to offer Bolero Invader in the past.
Even the new Duster gets a similar pickup truck version in countries like Romania, offering a little more utility than its standard SUV version. The production-spec version of Vision SXT is not likely not come with the two massive spare wheels in the boot. Also, the pickup tailgate in the production version is not likely to be a minimal and split unit you see in the concept.
What to expect?
Just like the Vision T, Mahindra Vision SXT will get a premium and utilitarian cabin with a portrait screen for infotainment and a landscape screen for driver’s instrumentation. There will be seating for five occupants and it is expected to come with all premium amenities which its segment and price bracket will command.
Mahindra Vision SXT will be underpinned by the company’s NU IQ platform, which takes a multi-energy pathway. It means there may be multiple powertrain options including Petrol, Diesel, Flex Fuel, Petrol + Electric Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid Electric, Range Extender EV Hybrid and even a pure Electric version. Global debut of a production model based on Vision SXT is expected to happen in 2027.
