Toyota Hyryder Battery Downsized – From 0.76 kWh to 0.60 kWh
by Akshay Kulkarni · RushLaneFrom July 1st of 2026, Toyota implemented a price hike with most of its portfolio in the country and one such model was Urban Cruiser Hyryder or simply called Hyryder. With the Hyryder, Toyota hiked the prices by up to Rs 32,000, but only the top-spec V Trim strong hybrid variants did not receive any price hike.
In other news, Hyryder has undergone a battery downsizing exercise without making much headlines anywhere from the past year. Newer Toyota Hyryder strong hybrid variants are being delivered with a smaller battery and the company is assuring that this downsizing in battery will not affect the real-world mileage figures.
Toyota Hyryder Battery Downsized
At launch, Toyota Hyryder used to be offered with a 0.76 kWh battery pack with Hyryder strong hybrid variants at launch to recuperate energy and provide short bursts of pure electric driving. These short bursts of electric power were minimal to begin with and they may have gotten shorter from last year owing to the battery downsizing exercise.
Toyota reportedly downsized the battery with the April 2025 model year update launched last year. This step took the battery pack from 0.76 kWh to 0.6 kWh. The company is promising that there is no drop in performance or fuel efficiency, but the short bursts of pure electric drive will have gotten shorter still.
The claimed ARAI mileage figures have not been changed and continue as they were when Hyryder was first launched. So, ARAI rated fuel efficiency is still 27.97 km/l, which is one of the highest in this segment. With the smaller battery, IC engine will kick in earlier, cutting out the short bursts of pure electric performance.
Any Other Changes?
Prices for Hyryder strong hybrid version starts from Rs 17.18 lakh (Ex-sh) for the S e-Drive 2WD Hybrid variant and goes till Rs 19.99 lakh (Ex-sh) for the top-spec V e-Drive 2WD Hybrid variant. The engine is retained as is, which was a 1.5L 3-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine with around 92 bhp and 122 Nm, mated to an electric motor rated at 80 bhp and 141 Nm.
It has to be noted that Renault is set to launch Duster Hybrid around the festive period and it is bringing a 1.4 kWh battery pack with it, which is more than double in capacity to what Toyota Hyryder strong hybrid is offering. The approach between two companies is stellar opposite and it would be interesting to know the effects of a bigger battery in a strong hybrid powertrain.
