Tata Motors has released a new promotional video of Sierra EV conquering the famous Tal Moreeb sand dune in Abu Dhabi, UAE. While the video primarily showcases the SUV’s off-road capability, it also reveals several new details about the production-spec Sierra EV that were not highlighted earlier.

Harrier EV-derived Terrain Modes and Boost Mode

One of the biggest takeaways from the video is the presence of Terrain Modes, similar to those offered on Harrier EV. During the dune climb, the instrument cluster clearly shows Sand Mode selected, indicating that Sierra EV will likely offer multiple drive modes optimized for different terrains.

Another interesting feature is Boost Mode. The display flashes “Boost Mode Activated” before the SUV accelerates up the dune, suggesting that drivers can temporarily access maximum power and torque when tackling demanding situations such as steep inclines, deep sand or overtaking. Combined with the dual-motor Quad Wheel Drive setup, these features should make Sierra EV among the most capable electric SUVs from Tata Motors.

500+ km range likely?

Another interesting detail visible in the video is the instrument cluster displaying 424 km of remaining range with 80% battery charge. If this figure is accurate and represents the displayed estimated range rather than real-time driving conditions alone, it points towards a claimed full-charge range exceeding 500 km, potentially in the 530 km range.

However, Tata Motors has not officially confirmed the certified range yet, so this should be viewed as an indication rather than a final specification. The display also shows an energy analytics screen with power flow visualization between the front and rear motors, confirming the dual-motor AWD configuration in action.

Production design details revealed

The video also gives a closer look at several production-spec styling details. The Sierra EV in the video gets gloss black body cladding and not grey. The steering wheel also appears to follow the Sierra ICE layout, featuring a gloss black centre panel with the traditional Tata logo instead of the illuminated Tata.ev branding seen on newer electric models such as Tiago EV.

Other visible elements include the same alloy wheel design previewed on Sierra ICE and a Head-Up Display, further indicating that Tata will maintain significant commonality between the ICE and EV versions.

Tal Moreeb climb showcases off-road capability

The promotional film also captures Sierra EV tackling one of the world’s tallest sand dunes at Tal Moreeb in the UAE, a location frequently used to test high-performance off-road vehicles. During the climb, the SUV can be seen using Sand Mode, Boost Mode and its Quad Wheel Drive system to maintain traction over the loose surface. Several shots also show all four wheels working together as the SUV powers through deep sand before cresting the dune.

While Tata Motors has already confirmed that Sierra EV will be offered with a dual-motor AWD setup, this is the first time the company has publicly demonstrated its capabilities in such challenging terrain. With launch scheduled for 30th June, Sierra EV is shaping up to be one of Tata Motors’ most technologically advanced electric SUVs, combining long-range capability with genuine all-terrain hardware inherited from Harrier EV.
