New Mahindra XUV 7XO

Mahindra appears to have struck the right chord with its decision to reposition and refresh the XUV700 as the new XUV7XO. While the SUV was already one of the strongest performers in its segment, sales data from 2026 shows that the updated model has unlocked an entirely new level of demand.

Since its original launch in September 2021, the XUV700 / XUV 7XO family has sold a cumulative 3,70,594 units in India till end of May 2026. Of these, 3,24,171 units were sold as XUV700 between September 2021 and December 2025. The renamed XUV 7XO has already contributed 46,423 units in the first five months of 2026.

XUV700 Built A Strong Foundation

Mahindra launched XUV700 in September 2021 as the successor to XUV500. The SUV quickly became one of the most sought-after products in the company’s portfolio, thanks to its combination of size, performance, technology and pricing. Sales crossed 11,964 units in its launch year despite being on sale for only four months. Full-year volumes rose to 65,371 units in 2022, followed by 74,434 units in 2023 and a record 90,727 units in 2024.

The SUV’s monthly average sales improved steadily from 2,991 units in 2021 to 5,448 units in 2022, 6,203 units in 2023 and 7,561 units in 2024. However, momentum slowed slightly in 2025. Annual sales fell to 81,675 units, translating to an average of 6,806 units per month, around 10% lower than 2024 levels. In total, XUV700 sales were at 3,24,171 units – averaging at 6,234 units per month.

XUV7XO Delivers Immediate Impact

Mahindra introduced the extensively updated XUV 7XO at the start of 2026. Apart from design revisions and feature upgrades, the company also repositioned the SUV under its new “XO” naming strategy. The impact was visible almost immediately.

From January to May 2026, XUV 7XO recorded sales of 46,423 units, averaging 9,285 units per month. This is the highest monthly average ever achieved by the SUV since its launch. Compared to the 2025 monthly average of 6,806 units, XUV 7XO is currently selling 36.4% more units every month. Even when compared to the previous best year of 2024, monthly volumes are higher by nearly 23%. Overall avg sales of 7XO are higher by almost 49%.

Consistent Demand Across 2026

Monthly sales performance highlights the consistency of demand. Every month in 2026 has comfortably remained above the 8,500-unit mark, with January crossing the 10,000-unit milestone. For perspective, the SUV crossed 10,000 monthly sales only a handful of times during the XUV700 era, including October 2024 and October 2025.

Interestingly, the XUV 7XO’s record-breaking sales have come at a time when Mahindra was not manufacturing all variants in full volumes. The company initially prioritised production and deliveries of higher-end trims, while lower variants and entry-level versions were introduced gradually. With deliveries of the complete variant lineup now underway in a phased manner, the SUV could see an additional boost in volumes as availability improves across price points.

What Is Driving Growth?

The XUV 7XO’s success appears to stem from a combination of factors. The refreshed design has given the SUV a more premium appearance, while feature additions have helped it remain competitive against newer rivals. Mahindra has also benefited from strong brand equity built by XUV700 over the last four years. Instead of replacing the formula, the company chose to evolve it, retaining the core strengths while improving the overall package.

The result is evident in the numbers. XUV 7XO is currently on track to comfortably surpass the best annual sales performance achieved by XUV700. If the current average of 9,285 units per month is maintained, annual sales could cross 1.1 lakh units in 2026, establishing a new record for the model line.
