Upcoming JSW Combat SUV Spied Next To Mahindra Thar ROXX

Fresh spy shots place the JSW Combat test mule alongside a Thar Roxx, offering a useful comparison of their proportions and road presence

JSW Motors’ upcoming SUV, expected to carry the Combat name, has been spotted testing again. This time, a Mahindra Thar Roxx owner Rohit Patil managed to park alongside the camouflaged vehicle and photograph the two SUVs together, providing an interesting visual comparison.

JSW Combat And Thar Roxx Side By Side

Both SUVs feature upright windscreens, boxy bodies, pronounced wheel arches and tailgate-mounted spare wheels. However, the photographs highlight differences in their proportions and detailing.

The JSW test mule has a broad, relatively flat bonnet and rectangular headlamp housings, contrasting with the Roxx’s circular headlights and vertical grille openings. Heavy camouflage conceals the upcoming SUV’s grille and bumper details, although the overall JSW Combat shape remains recognisable.

At the rear, the test vehicle gets an enclosed spare-wheel cover, vertically oriented tail-lamps and a substantial bumper. The Roxx’s exposed spare wheel and more compact rear lamp assemblies give it a different appearance despite the shared upright design theme.

Longer And Wider, But Roxx Has A Longer Wheelbase

The overseas Jetour T2 dimensions provide a reference for the upcoming JSW Combat SUV. Using the quoted 4,785 mm length, 2,006 mm width and 1,870 mm height, it is 357 mm longer and 136 mm wider than the Thar Roxx, but 53 mm lower. Interestingly, the Roxx has a 2,850 mm wheelbase, which is 50 mm longer than the T2’s 2,800 mm.

Combat figures are reference specifications for the overseas model; India spec might be slightly different. The photographs offer a useful impression of their stance, although parking positions, ground levels and camera perspective prevent an exact size comparison.

Test Mule Carries Auto-Brake Warning

Another detail visible in the photographs is a yellow warning on the spare-wheel cover reading “Caution: Auto Brake — Keep Safe Distance”. This suggests that automatic braking functionality is being evaluated on the test vehicle. The overseas Jetour T2 offers technology such as driver assistance systems and surround-view cameras. Roof rails, side steps, conventional door handles and alloy wheels are also visible beneath or around the camouflage.

Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain Expected

JSW Motors’ first own-brand Combat SUV is expected to use the Jetour T2 i-DM plug-in hybrid as its basis. This would give it a different powertrain proposition from the petrol and diesel Thar Roxx, despite the visual comparisons.

Launch is expected next month, ahead of festive-season. Initial production is via local assembly in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. Prices are expected to be in the Rs 30 lakh range. The Combat name is also yet to be officially announced.
