Car Retail Sales Sep 2026 – Maruti, Mahindra, Tata, Hyundai, Toyota, Kia, Skoda VW, MG, Honda

Car retail sales reached 4.27 lakh units in September 2026, with Mahindra edging past Tata by just 89 units and electric vehicles increasing their share to 8.45%.

Car retails sales recorded strong growth in September 2026. Sales surpassed the 4 lakh unit mark with 4,27,213 units sold. This was a 32.10% growth when compared to 3,23,391 units sold in September of the last year. Sales also improved by 6.17% from 4,02,398 of August 2026.

Automotive Retail Sales Sep 2026

As per data released by FADA, passenger vehicle sales have also improved strongly on a year-to-date basis with sales at 25,44,187 units, a 24.48% rise over 20,43,813 of the same period of last year. Sales improved both in urban and rural areas clocking growth of 32.11% and 32.09% respectively YoY.

The fuelwise share saw petrol/ethanol vehicles commanding a 41.27% share while diesel held a 17.74% share and CNG/LPG commanded a 23.11% share. Hybrid and Evs stood at 9.44% and 8.45% respectively.

Car Retail Sales Aug 2026

Maruti Suzuki retained its top position with 1,69,132 units sold with a market share of 39.59%. On a MoM basis as well, Maruti sales grew over 1,67,200 units sold in August 2026.

Mahindra commanded a No. 2 spot, scaling over Tata Motors by just 89 units. Mahindra sales stood at 57,343 units while Tata Motors recorded retail sales of 57,254 units. Tata Motors market share slipped to 13.40% from 13.76% held in the same month of last year.

Hyundai followed with 50,201 units sold, a strong growth over 38,187 units of Sept 2025 while Toyota Kirloskar Motor sales went up to 28,050 units securing a 6.57% market share. Kia India too saw its retail sales improve to 26,663 units, up from 18,274 units with market share going up to 6.24%. Skoda Group had 8,479 units sold in the past month but saw a sequential dip in market share to 1.98% from a 2.31% share held in the same month of last year.

JSW MG sales also ended positively last month at 6,475 units from 5,698 units though market share declined to 1.52%. Honda Cars also performed better with 5,283 units sold, up from 3,707 units of Sept 2025 and Renault has also recorded growth with 3,410 unit sales, up from 2,562 units on a YoY basis. Nissan and Vinfast sales stood at 2,967 units and 2,964 units respectively.

Luxury Car Retail Sales Aug 2026

In the luxury passenger vehicle segment, BMW India accounted for 1,970 unit sales last month, up from 1,357 units of Sept 2026. Mercedes too witnessed strong growth at 1,768 unit sales though its market share declined to 0.41% from 0.43% YoY.

The retail sales list also had Force Motors with 1,332 unit sales, growth over 511 units sold in the same month last year taking market share up to 0.31% from 0.16%. Stellantis Group (Jeep + Citroen) sales also surged to 1,076 units from 641 units while BYD and Jaguar recorded sales of 836 units and 581 units The others category recorded 1,429 units during the month, down from 2,022 units in September 2025.
