Mahindra XEV 9S Gets New 6 Seater Option – Captain Seats Added
by Nabanita Singha Roy · RushLaneMahindra has expanded XEV 9S lineup with a new 6-seater configuration, adding individual captain seats for second-row passengers. Until now, XEV 9S was primarily positioned as a three-row, 7-seater electric family SUV. The new configuration gives buyers a more premium seating option while retaining three-row practicality.
Launched in November 2025 at a starting price of Rs 19.95 lakh, XEV 9S has emerged as the best-selling electric car in Mahindra’s portfolio. Last month XEV 9S sales were at 4,131 units. Addition of a 6-seat layout could further strengthen its appeal among buyers looking for a spacious three-row electric SUV.
XEV 9S 6-Seater – Which Variants Get It?
Mahindra has confirmed that captain seats will be available with Pack Two Above, Pack Three and Pack Three Abovevariants. This means the option is being offered across the higher-spec versions rather than the entry-level Pack One Above.
The biggest change is in the second row, where the conventional bench makes way for two individual captain seats. Images shared by Mahindra show both seats getting individual armrests, while the space between them creates a clear passage towards the third row.
The layout comprises two seats in the first row, two captain seats in the second and two seats in the third, resulting in a 2+2+2 configuration. Mahindra describes the new setup as offering a more relaxed journey. Captain seats could be particularly relevant for chauffeur-driven customers as well as families who prioritise second-row comfort.
Already A Feature-Loaded Electric SUV
Higher variants of XEV 9S already have a long equipment list. Features include three 12.3-inch screens across the dashboard, front and rear ventilated seats, powered Boss Mode, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with 1,400W output.
Other equipment includes 5G connectivity, an active air purifier, 540-degree camera system, digital key functionality, scheduled HVAC and VisionX augmented-reality head-up display. Level 2+ ADAS and six airbags are among its key safety features. The captain-seat configuration should complement these comfort-focused features, particularly on Pack Three and Pack Three Above variants.
Battery And Performance Remain Unchanged
No mechanical changes have been announced alongside the new seating configuration. XEV 9S is based on Mahindra’s INGLO electric architecture and is available with 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh battery options, depending on the variant. The SUV also benefits from a five-link independent suspension setup with intelligent semi-active dampers on applicable variants, along with brake-by-wire technology.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a single electric motor, with higher-spec versions producing up to 282 bhp and 380 Nm. Mahindra claims 0-100 km/h acceleration in around 7 seconds, while peak DC fast-charging capability goes up to 180 kW.
