JSW Chery eSUV Patented In India – Spied At Charging Station

With multiple Chery models patented in the last 12 months, JSW Motors appears geared up to quickly build a strong portfolio

JSW Motors will soon launch its new passenger vehicle brand in technology partnership with Chery Automobile. Various Chery models have been patented in India and test mule sightings have been widely reported. In the latest development, the Chery iCaur V23-based SUV has been patented for the Indian market. It has also been spotted at a charging station, by automotive enthusiast S Balaji.

Chery iCaur V23 patent reveals India-specific features

As seen in the design patent images, the SUV is almost identical to the model sold in China and other global markets. There are only a few differences such as a slightly revised front grille. It appears that the India-spec version will be getting a dual-tone highlight on the main grille panel. This is different from the global-spec model that used a fully body coloured unit. There are no changes to the circular headlamps and pixel-style LED DRLs.

Clamshell bonnet and the rugged bumper appear identical as well. Side profile reveals common features such as flared wheel arches in a black finish, side steps and flap door handles. The SUV has a boxy presence with the beltline and roofline running parallel to the ground. All pillars are body coloured and the SUV uses rectangular ORVMs.

India-spec version of iCaur V23 gets a slightly different design for the alloy wheels. Another difference is a rectangular element on the panel between the C and D pillar. The global model uses a flat plane surface without any form of detailing. At the rear, most of the features are the same as the global iCaur V23.

Lighting elements are similar to the ones used at the front. Rear bumper also matches the design seen at the front. iCaur V23 has a large rear windshield, a flat tailgate and storage space in the shape of a spare tyre carrier. Indian version has exclusive features such as a sunroof, which is not offered with the global iCaur V23.

Interior features

Inside, the India-spec iCaur V23 is expected to be largely the same as the international model. One of the key highlights is a large centrally mounted 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This also integrates the functions of a digital instrument cluster. A dedicated instrument cluster is not standard with the iCaur V23, although buyers in some markets can get it as an optional extra.

There are rotary dials for audio, climate controls and drive mode selection. iCaur V23 is offered as a 5-seater vehicle and has leatherette upholstery. Changes in the cabin are expected to be minimal for the India-spec version. It could come in the form of exclusive seat upholstery and interior colour themes.

AWD likely for India

Globally, the iCaur V23 is available with battery pack options of 59.93 kWh and 81.76 kWh. These have a certified range of 360 km and 430 km, respectively (as per NEDC standards). Variants with the smaller battery pack are available in RWD configuration, whereas the larger battery pack variants have AWD. RWD variants generate 134 hp and 180 Nm, whereas AWD (dual motor) variants produce 208 hp and 292 Nm.

Reports indicate that the iCaur V23 could be offered in India with AWD, dual motor setup. This will ensure premium positioning and make it a comparable alternative to rival ICE offerings. In India, the iCaur V23 will take on rivals like Thar Roxx and Force Gurkha 5-door variant. Launch price of iCaur V23 is expected around Rs 20 lakh.
