Toyota is readying the all-new 9th-gen Hilux for India, which is scheduled to be launched on 28th July. Ahead of that, a new teaser has revealed some of the exterior features of the pickup. Most of what is visible in the teaser appears to be largely the same as the new-gen model available across global markets.
New Hilux exterior features
Toyota’s latest teaser reveals the 9th-gen Hilux in the new Sulphur Metallic exterior shade. Across European markets, this new colour is offered with the range topping variant of the 48V mild hybrid Hilux. The teaser focuses largely on showcasing the pickup’s off-roading capabilities, such as water wading and traversing rough terrain.
While the outgoing model has a large Toyota logo on the grille, the new-gen model features ‘TOYOTA’ lettering in metallic finish. The lettering is installed on a blacked-out band, which enhances the overall impact. Other features revealed in the teaser include sleek LED headlamps and DRLs, as well as a sculpted bonnet with distinctive metal stamping.
The new Hilux has a body-coloured grille, trapezoidal side trims, a boxier bumper design, and a blacked-out skid plate. Overall, the new Hilux comes across as a lot more rugged and athletic, as compared to the outgoing model. While other features are not that clear in this teaser, it is known that the new Hilux has squared wheel arches and blacked-out OVRMs, alloy wheels and door handles.
‘Hilux’ lettering on the front doors also has a blacked-out finish. At the rear, the new-gen Hilux has a shark fin antenna and roll bars. India is expected to get the double cab version of the new Hilux. The tailgate of the new Hilux has TOYOTA lettering in a large font and glossy black finish. Tail lamps have a distinctive C-shape and are vertically oriented. The rear bumper features a built-in step for easy access to the cargo bed.
Performance, equipment
Across global markets, the new Hilux is offered with diesel, 48V diesel mild-hybrid, petrol and full electric powertrain options. These options vary based on the market and emission standards. In India, the new Hilux is expected to continue with the existing 2.8-litre four cylinder diesel engine. It generates 204 PS of max power. Torque output is 420 Nm with the 6-speed manual transmission and 500 Nm with the 6-speed automatic.
Inside, the new Hilux features a refreshed cabin with a rugged, squared-off aesthetic. Key features include a layered dashboard, new leather-wrapped steering wheel and dual 12.3-inch screens. Other highlights include dual zone climate control, wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and a 360 degree surround view camera. A comprehensive range of radar-based ADAS features are included.
Upon launch, the new-gen Hilux will continue to rival the Isuzu V-Cross. With the updates, a slightly higher pricing can be expected for the new Hilux. The current model is available in the price range of Rs 28.52 lakh to Rs 36 lakh.
