Maruti Eeco Records 15 Lakh Sales Milestone – 16 Years And Counting
by Pearl Daniels · RushLaneMaruti Suzuki Eeco has crossed the 15 lakh cumulative sales milestone in India. Launched in January 2010, the van has taken around 16 years to achieve the landmark, with its sales pace accelerating considerably in recent years.
Last 5 Lakh Sales Came In Just 3.5 Years
Eeco’s sales trajectory is particularly interesting. The first 5 lakh units took around eight years, while the next 5 lakh were sold in under five years. Eeco then added its latest 5 lakh sales in approximately three-and-a-half years, its fastest 5 lakh-unit run yet.
The numbers highlight the continued relevance of what is now one of the oldest products in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio. Unlike most passenger vehicles, Eeco caters to a particularly broad customer base covering personal as well as commercial applications.
Maruti says 65% of Eeco sales in FY2025-26 came from rural markets. Around 55% of buyers were first-time car buyers, while more than 51% were business owners. These figures help explain why Eeco continues to generate steady volumes despite its relatively basic positioning.
Eeco’s wider portfolio currently consists of 13 variants covering 5-seater and 6-seater passenger versions along with Tour V, Cargo and Ambulance configurations. Both petrol and factory-fitted S-CNG powertrain options are available. Interestingly, CNG has become increasingly important to Eeco’s sales. Its contribution has increased from just 12% in FY2019-20 to 48% in FY2025-26.
1.2L Petrol Engine, 6 Airbags Standard
Eeco is powered by Maruti’s 1.2-litre K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT petrol engine. Claimed fuel efficiency stands at 19.71 km/l for petrol versions and 26.78 km/kg for S-CNG versions.
Safety equipment has also improved significantly over the years. 2026 Eeco gets six airbags as standard along with ESP, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, three-point ELR seatbelts for all occupants, seatbelt reminders, speed alert and side-impact protection. Other equipment includes a digital instrument cluster, air conditioning, HVAC controls, reclining front seats and a dome lamp with battery saver function.
Eeco Remains A Strong Volume Contributor
Eeco’s 15 lakh milestone comes at a time when Maruti continues to post sizeable volumes from its utility-focused models. Despite the Indian car market moving rapidly towards SUVs, Eeco occupies a relatively uncontested space with its combination of passenger, cargo and institutional applications.
More importantly, the shortening gap between each 5 lakh sales milestone shows that demand has actually accelerated rather than faded with age. With nearly half of its recent sales now coming from CNG and a large rural and business customer base, Eeco continues to serve a very different market from Maruti’s mainstream hatchbacks and SUVs.
