Sedan sales in India maintained positive year-on-year momentum in August 2026, even as volumes declined compared to the previous month. The nine sedans in this list registered combined sales of 32,913 units, representing 15.68% YoY growth over 28,451 units sold in August 2025. However, compared to 37,728 units sold in July 2026, sales declined by 12.76%.

Maruti Dzire continued to dominate the sedan market by a considerable margin, while Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze occupied second and third positions. Compact sedans remained responsible for a large majority of volumes, while models such as Virtus, Slavia and Verna witnessed YoY declines.

Maruti Dzire recorded sales of 18,418 units in August 2026, compared to 16,509 units a year ago. This resulted in 11.56% YoY growth and gave Dzire a commanding 55.96% share among sedans listed here. However, sales dropped 22.58% MoM from 23,791 units recorded in July. Hyundai Aura was a distant second with 6,685 units, registering healthy growth on both parameters. Sales increased 25.28% YoY from 5,336 units and 14.92% MoM from 5,817 units. Aura accounted for 20.31% of sedan sales in August.

Honda Amaze delivered the strongest YoY growth among sedans. At 3,512 units, sales more than doubled from 1,753 units in August 2025, resulting in 100.34% growth. Amaze also improved marginally by 2.21% over July’s 3,436 units and commanded a 10.67% share. Together, Dzire, Aura and Amaze accounted for almost 87% of the sedan volumes covered here, highlighting the dominance of compact sedans.

Virtus Leads Midsize Sedans

Volkswagen Virtus retained its position as the highest-selling midsize sedan, although sales declined. Virtus registered 1,301 units, down 22.28% YoY and 8.38% MoM. Its share stood at 3.95%. Skoda Slavia followed with 897 units, registering an 11.01% YoY decline and 9.67% MoM drop.

Tata Tigor / Tigor EV was close behind with 862 units. Unlike Virtus and Slavia, Tigor registered growth of 7.08% YoY and 13.72% MoM. Hyundai Verna recorded 529 units, emerging as the biggest YoY decliner in the list. Sales were down 31.39% from 771 units last year and 28.22% from 737 units in July.

City, Camry Register YoY Growth

Honda City sales stood at 514 units, up 17.62% YoY from 437 units. However, sales declined 9.98% MoM from 571 units. Toyota Camry completed the list with 195 units, registering 23.42% YoY growth but a 4.88% MoM decline.

August numbers once again underline the contrasting fortunes within India’s sedan market. Overall volumes grew by nearly 16% YoY, but much of the demand remains concentrated around Dzire, Aura and Amaze. Midsize sedans continue to operate at significantly lower volumes, with Virtus, Slavia and Verna all recording YoY declines during the month.
