Honda ADV160 vs Rivals Compared – Xoom 160, Aerox 155

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India has just unveiled a mega product offensive for the Indian market. The company is tackling India’s premium and enthusiast motorcycle and scooter segment on multiple fronts. We have ADV 160 (E85 compatible), QC3 (EV), XR300 lineup (ADVs), CB500 lineup (big displacement Roadsters), Rebel lineup (proper cruisers) and more.

The most interesting offering of these 10 products showcased is the ADV160. We say this because ADV160 is India’s first-ever Flex Fuel capable scooter (up to E85). It takes on the likes of Hero Xoom 160 and Yamaha Aerox 155 in the country falling into the category of sporty / maxi scooters with liquid cooled engine.

In terms of design, one has to agree that Hero Xoom 160 looks SUV-ish with its body work, but Honda ADV160 takes that SUV quotient a couple of notches above. In comparison, Yamaha Aerox 155 takes the sporty scooter route. ADV160 looks the most outlandish, the most substantial and the most eye-catching in this trio.

All three of these scooters are distinguished by their engines, but come with similar displacement and engine character. Displacement is around 155cc to 157cc and power is 14.5 bhp to 15 bhp, while torque is between 13.9 Nm and 15 Nm. Honda ADV160 has upper hand in both power and torque figures, by a small margin.

SOHC 4V/cyl head is common between all three and all three are liquid-cooled engines. Only ADV160 is E85 compatible, while Xoom 160 and Aerox 155 are not (yet). Only ADV160 gets an adjustable windscreen up front and it has the shortest wheelbase of 1,323 mm, highest ground clearance of 165 mm and lowest seat height of 780 mm.

Honda ADV160 is not as light as Yamaha Aerox 155 at 126 kg, but the 133 kg kerb weight is certainly less than Xoom 160’s colossal 145 kg. Just like Xoom 160 and Aerox 155, ADV160 also comes with a central spine where the fuel tank is housed. ADV160 has the largest fuel tank too, at almost 8 litres.

While the front wheel is 14-inches with all three of these sporty / maxi scooters, Honda ADV160 comes with a smaller 13-inch rear wheel. Also, tyres are skinniest with ADV160. Honda is offering ADV160 with rear disc brake, something which both Xoom 160 and Aerox 155 do not offer. Single channel ABS is common between all three.

Also common between all three is attributes like front telescopic forks, rear twin-shockers, LED headlights, LED tail lights, keyless go with smart key, fully digital instrument cluster and more. Only ADV160 offers a TFT screen. Aerox 155 lacks navigation features too, something the other two offer.
