KTM has given the 790 Duke, also called ‘The Scalpel’, a comprehensive update for MY27. The new version will be available in showrooms in the UK by the end of July. Availability across other global markets may vary and dates are not yet officially announced. There is a probability of this launching in Indian market too, but later on.
2027 KTM 790 Duke – What’s new?
Updated KTM 790 Duke has refreshed bodywork, which includes enhanced rider-focused ergonomics. Key highlights include a larger front fairing and updated design for the fuel tank. These changes aim to unlock multiple benefits such as better knee contact and improved control and handling while cornering. Road presence is further enhanced with a refreshed headlight and sharper panelling.
Overall styling of the 2027 KTM 790 Duke is aligned with its larger siblings such as the KTM 990 Duke and 1390 Super Duke R. The new LED headlight helps build a distinctive front profile and also ensures enhanced visibility. 2027 KTM 790 Duke is equipped with a 5-inch, bonded-glass TFT dashboard. The UI is crisp and designed to be easily navigable with fewer clicks.
In addition to revised ergonomics, the 2027 KTM 790 Duke features repositioned footpegs, an updated seat design and an adjustable tapered handlebar. These changes ensure that the new model fulfils the needs of both new and experienced riders. Footpegs have been moved 2 mm backward and 7 mm upward.
This ensures a sportier, engaged posture, essential for high speed rides. Changes to the seat design include a narrower front section for enhanced knee grip. The seat cover has a high-grip surface that facilitates more controlled movements. It is designed to work with both textile as well as leather riding gear.
Chassis, performance updates
2027 KTM 790 Duke features an all-new cast aluminium subframe, offering multiple benefits. In addition to its bold styling, the new subframe reduces weight, boosts airflow to the engine and improves rigidity and durability. The new subframe is built from a single piece and has integrated side air intakes.
Braking performance has been improved with a new WP braking system developed in-house. This new setup ensures effortless braking and a smooth, linear response. Users do not have to worry about sudden, jerky movements with this new braking system. KTM has also updated the suspension system with the new 790 Duke. The WP APEX 43 mm USD forks at front now have split-function technology.
These come with adjustable compression and rebound damping. Rear monoshock suspension has rebound damping and preload for enhanced control. Users can also easily finetune the suspension via an easy-to-use 5-click dial. The ability to make user-specific suspension adjustments gives riders more confidence in achieving the best fit.
2027 KTM 790 Duke uses Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires, which also help in boosting performance. In other changes, KTM has announced that it will not be offering the Demo Mode with future models. This decision is said to be based on user feedback. The new 790 Duke continues with the 799cc LC8c parallel-twin EURO 5+ compliant engine.
It generates 93 bhp and 87 Nm of torque, and is paired with a 6-speed transmission, for A2 license compliant version and 105 bhp in standard version. Fuel economy is around 22 km/L. 790 Duke has ride modes of Street, Sport and Rain. While the engine is the same, the bike has a new design for the exhaust and muffler.
