In the pursuit to make the best car in the world, Mercedes-Benz has updated their flagship S-Class with a facelift. This facelift has now made its way to our soil and has been launched here as a PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle). It has to be noted that Mercedes Benz is offering the S-Class with a plug-in Hybrid setup in India for the very first time.

With this facelift, Mercedes is giving the S-Class comprehensive updates across its exteriors and interiors. 2026 Mercedes S-Class S 450e (PHEV) has been launched for a price tag of Rs 2.2 Cr (Ex-sh). Bookings commence today and deliveries will start in Q4 of 2026 around Diwali period.

New Mercedes S-Class Hybrid Launch

In terms of pricing, 2026 S-Class is more expensive than its predecessor by around Rs 35 lakh. However, it has to be noted that Mercedes-Benz India will launch a mild-hybrid version of S-Class (S 450 4MATIC) later on, which should bring the Ex-sh price of India’s one of the most desirable flagship luxury sedans.

On the outside, a grander front fascia is immediately evident. Notable elements include an illuminated surround around the slatted grille along with chrome finished star elements. LED headlights are slightly larger now and integrated LED DRLs get three-pointed star signature. Front grille is around 20% larger now, ensuring a more striking presence.

The Mercedes three-pointed star hood ornament is now illuminated for that extra panache. Headlights are around 40% brighter than before with the advent of micro LED Digital Light tech. There are larger air intakes on the lower bumper, lending a more dominant road presence when compared to its predecessor.

Side profile has been enhanced with new alloy wheel design. At the rear, new S-Class gets modern tail lamps with three-pointed star signature, mimicking the headlights. Multiple new colours have been introduced with the 2026 S-Class facelift. Buyers can also glance over the brand’s bespoke Manufaktur range for exclusive colours and trims.

Interior updates

Interiors of the new Mercedes S-Class facelift have become more tech-heavy. The classic dashboard has been replaced with MBUX Superscreen setup with a central 14.4 inch touchscreen, a 12.3 inch instrument console and a 12.3 inch passenger display, all powered by the brand’s latest MB.OS version along with deeper AI integration with MBUX virtual assistant.

S-Class can now be more easily updated via OTA updates and AR-enabled HUD now gets Google-powered Maps integration. Notable highlights include digitally adjustable AC vents, 13.1 inch rear entertainment screens, Burmester 4D audio system, standard air suspension, optional active self-levelling suspension, 4-zone automatic climate control, advanced ADAS, standard 4.5-degrees rear wheel steering and an optional 10-degree version and more. Reclining, heated, ventilated and massaging front and rear seats, 4-seater ‘Executive Rear Seats’ along with enhanced cabin insulation and ambient lighting.

New Plug-In Hybrid Engine

The Mercedes S-Class S 450e with EQ Hybrid Tech comprises a 3.0L Turbo Petrol in-line six-cyl engine and an electric motor driving wheels that draws power from a 22 kWh battery pack. Total system output is rated at 435 hp and 680 Nm. The 22 kWh battery pack allows for a pure electric range of 115 km.

S 450e can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds. Non-Hybrid S 450 variant will launch in the future and it uses a 48V mild hybrid setup. This combination is rated at 404 hp and 500 Nm, mated to a 4Matic AWD system and can achieve 0-100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds.
