New Hyundai Mid-Size SUV Spied With ‘ON’ Teaser – Is Bayon The India Name?

Hyundai’s upcoming mid-size SUV has been spotted testing once again in India. While previous sightings have already revealed several details about the new model, the latest test mule is interesting for its unusual camouflage carrying a prominent “BRING IT ON” message across the doors.

Hyundai Says ‘Bring It On’

Unlike the conventional black camouflage generally used on early prototypes, the latest test vehicle is wrapped almost entirely in white camouflage filled with words including Innovation, Transformation, Companion, Ambition, Inspiration, Reflection and Expression.

The most prominent message, however, is “BRING IT ON”, displayed in large letters on both sides of the vehicle. This suggests Hyundai is gradually moving towards the promotional phase of the upcoming SUV’s development, although the company is yet to reveal its production name.

Is Hyundai Teasing Bayon Name?

There could be more to the unusual camouflage than initially meets the eye. A closer look reveals that the letters “ON” are repeatedly highlighted in red across the test mule.

Words and phrases appearing on the wrap include Innovation, Perfection, Transformation, Conversation, Reflection, Expression, Inspiration, Selection and Evolution. Then there is the largest message of them all – “BRING IT ON”. In several instances, the common element is the ending “ON”, which Hyundai has deliberately highlighted.

This becomes particularly interesting considering the international model associated with this upcoming SUV is called Bayon – another name ending in “ON”. It raises the possibility that Hyundai could be using the camouflage to subtly tease the Bayon name for India. Alternatively, the repeated “ON” theme could simply be part of the model’s pre-launch communication campaign and may eventually point towards a different production name.

Upright Design, Distinctive Lighting

Despite the extensive camouflage, the latest images provide a good look at the overall proportions. The SUV has an upright stance with a relatively flat roof, substantial wheel arches, roof rails and conventional door handles.

At the front, the new Hyundai SUV appears to feature a wide lighting signature positioned close to the bonnet line. Main lighting elements are placed lower down, giving the fascia a layered appearance similar to Hyundai’s newer SUV designs. The side profile reveals squared-off wheel arches with thick cladding and alloy wheels. Its roofline remains fairly straight towards the rear, which should help maximise interior headroom and luggage space.

At the back, a horizontal lighting element can be seen running across the tailgate area. The rear windshield is fairly upright and gets a prominent roof-mounted spoiler. Overall proportions suggest Hyundai is prioritising cabin space and practicality rather than giving the SUV a heavily coupe-inspired profile.

New Interior With Dual Screens

Previous spy shots have already provided a glimpse inside the upcoming SUV. The dashboard is expected to feature a horizontally oriented layout dominated by two integrated digital screens, combining the instrument cluster and infotainment system. A new steering wheel design similar to the latest generation Venue has also been seen, including Hyundai’s four-dot signature in place of conventional branding.

Other expected equipment includes a 360-degree camera, sunroof, connected car technology and multiple ADAS functions, depending on the variant. Hyundai is likely to position the new SUV as a technology-rich offering, giving it enough differentiation from both Venue below it and Creta above.

Petrol And CNG Options Expected

The upcoming Hyundai SUV is expected to be offered primarily with petrol powertrains. Hyundai’s familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, currently used by Creta, is one possible option. In Creta, this engine produces 115 PS and 143.8 Nm and is available with manual and IVT gearbox options.

A CNG version is also expected to be part of the programme. If introduced, this could become an important differentiator for Hyundai in the above-four-metre SUV segment, where factory-fitted CNG options remain relatively limited. Final engine specifications and transmission combinations have not yet been officially announced.
