Kia has officially unveiled the all-new Seltos with a hybrid powertrain for European markets. This is the only powertrain option that will be offered with the new Seltos in European markets such as the UK. Seltos hybrid will go on sale in Europe and the United States later this year. Launch in India is expected in 2027.
Kia Seltos 1.6-hybrid – Performance
Kia had showcased the new Seltos hybrid earlier also, but details about the powertrain were not revealed at that time. New Seltos hybrid in Europe is equipped with an advanced 1.6-litre GDI Hybrid (HEV) engine. It is paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This hybrid powertrain is designed to enhance efficiency while meeting the needs of everyday commutes.
Based on their preferences, users will be able to choose from 2WD and e-AWD versions. The 2WD variant generates 154 PS and sends power to the front wheels. Those seeking stronger performance can choose the 178 PS e-AWD variant. New Seltos hybrid is the first Kia model to be equipped with an e-AWD system.
This setup is designed for users who need better handling and enhanced traction. An electronic all-wheel-drive system has been used, which ensures optimal torque distribution across the axles. The system ensures improved vehicle stability even at higher speeds. Kia will be introducing this hybrid option in India as well, but at a later date. All-new Hyundai Creta is also expected to get a hybrid powertrain.
Kia Seltos hybrid – Exclusive features
Kia has also revealed some of the key features of Seltos hybrid. The SUV has drive modes of Eco, Normal and Sport. There are also features such as regenerative braking and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) that are generally seen with battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Seltos hybrid is Kia’s first hybrid offering to use the Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0. The system is programmed to automatically adjust vehicle deceleration and maintain an adequate distance from other vehicles ahead.
With the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function, users can charge appliances and devices using the vehicle’s hybrid system. Seltos hybrid also comes with a Stay Mode, which is designed to ensure optimal comfort when the vehicle is stationary. With the Stay Mode, systems such as the vehicle’s electronics and climate control are automatically adjusted for optimal cabin comfort without overloading the power supply.
Some features of the Seltos hybrid were already revealed when it was showcased at the New York Auto Show. For example, a front speaker has been added to mimic the sound of a moving vehicle. This speaker will likely activate automatically when Seltos hybrid is being driven in pure EV mode. Other updates include a new gear selector and centre console.
Seltos hybrid has sporty seats, physical buttons for the climate control and Type-C charging ports. Other highlights include a 30-inch Trinity display, cruise control and a comprehensive range of ADAS features. More details about the Seltos hybrid and its launch timeline are expected to be revealed in the days leading up to its launch.
