New Chery Tiggo 4, Pup Pickup, Exeed EX7 REEV Patented In India

China’s Chery Automobile has a vast repository of vehicles across its many sub brands like Chery, Tiggo, Omoda, Jaecoo, Lepas, Luxeed, Exeed, Jetour, iCar (or iCaur), Rely, Soueast, Exlantix, Kaiyi, Karry and more. Now that Chery has a partnership with JSW Motors from India, the company has been patenting a few global vehicles here.

These patents could mean possible launches in the near future under JSW brand, or just IP protection exercises in the Indian market. In the past, there have been many Chery patents filed across brands in India and the company just added three more – Chery Exeed EX7, Tiggo 4 and Tiggo Pup pickup truck.

New Chery Tiggo 4

We say new Chery Tiggo 4 and not just Tiggo 4 because it is a new and upcoming version of Chery Tiggo 4 that is yet to be launched. Say, a facelift of some sort, which is not on sale globally. Currently, Tiggo 4 is sold in China, UK, Australia, Middle East, New Zealand and Africa. Current Tiggo 4 measures 4,330 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, 1,660 mm tall and has a 2,610 mm long wheelbase.

Ground clearance is 180 mm and the wheel sizes can go till 18-inches in size. In terms of the new design, it gets split headlights with actual headlights below, vertically arranged. Large grille is new too, but side and rear are sort of identical to current model. Inside, it gets a twin-display dash, dual-zone AC, leather seats, powered driver’s seat, 430L boot and more. Powering Tiggo 4 is either a 1.5L Turbo Petrol or a Strong Hybrid with 1.83 kWh battery and electric drive system.

Chery Tiggo Pup Pickup Truck

Second patent is that of a monobody compact pickup truck which seems to be called Tiggo Pup pickup truck. There haven’t been any physical showcases of this vehicle and production is not confirmed by Chery yet. This is a compact monobody pickup truck, like a Ford Maverick or a Hyundai Santafe, Chevy Montana, RAM Rampage, Fiat Toro, VW Tukan. Rear roll cage and muscular creases all over, lend this vehicle a macho aesthetic. Fascia looks quite nice too, even in this 2D sketch.

Rear bed is short and is not like you get in a mid-size pickup truck like Toyota Hilux. We can see chunky wheel arch claddings, massive side body claddings, sporty rear profile with what looks like connected LED tail lights. Everywhere you see, there’s a character with this Tiggo Pup and we wish something like this is offered in India too. Interiors and powertrains are not known about this vehicle yet.

Chery Exeed EX7 REEV

Exeed brand is not a stranger to India anymore, because Chery has patented multiple Exeed vehicles in the country already. Latest addition is Exeed EX7 REEV, which is a range extended Hybrid vehicle. In this config, the engine present, is only used as a range extender, charging the onboard battery and does not directly drive wheels. Driving is taken care of by a 41.16 kWh battery pack and 2WD and 4WD configs are on offer.

In terms of design, Chery Exeed EX7 REEV gets rounded edges and smooth body surfacing to reduce air drag. We can see split headlight setup with headlight elements below, arranged vertically. There’s connected LED DRL strip and connected LED tail light strip. Wheel sizes go till 21-inchers. Inside, there’s a gigantic 30-inch infotainment screen, 23-speaker audio system, Level-2 ADAS with LiDAR and more.
