Mahindra XEV 9e Spied In Australia

When launched, XEV 9E will be Mahindra’s first electric offering for the Australian market

Mahindra’s BEV lineup has been a roaring success in India, helping the brand to emerge as the second largest EV maker in the country. Mahindra is now seeking to carve out a place for its EVs in international markets. Australia could be one of the first export destinations, as an XEV 9E was recently spotted in Melbourne. While not official, Mahindra could introduce the XEV 9E in Australia later this year or in 2027.

Exterior profile of XEV 9E spotted in Melbourne is largely the same as the model sold in India. This could be either the Everest White or Satin White variant. Key features include sharp LED DRLs with an interconnecting strip. Also, triangular housings for the headlamps, a distinctive closed-off grille design and blacked-out bumper.

Side profile has squared wheel arches, body cladding in glossy black finish, dual-tone ORVMs and a sloping roofline. XEV 9E has sporty, dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, the electric SUV has a raked windshield, shark fin antenna, 3D-style tail lamps in connected format, XEV 9E lettering in chrome finish and a layered bumper design with chrome garnish.

Potential tweaks for Australian market

While the exterior profile appears to be the same, there are likely to be several changes in the Australia-spec XEV 9E. For example, more advanced ADAS features could be introduced with XEV 9E in Australia. There are unlikely to be any major structural changes. XEV 9E’s INGLO skateboard architecture is already designed to comply with stricter safety standards like Australasian NCAP (ANCAP) and Euro NCAP.

Suspension setup could undergo some tweaks, considering that Australia’s regional and remote areas often have rough roads and off-road terrain. Making these changes should not be a problem since Mahindra already does ADAS and suspension testing for its ICE SUVs in Australia.

Other tweaks likely for the Australian market include features such as support for local languages, speed limit assist and eCall emergency system. Charging setup and range calculation will also need to align with standards in Australia. WLTP range re-certification could be needed, which may result in changes to the officially claimed range figures.

There can be some changes in the equipment as well, in line with local tastes and preferences. Warranty period and related terms and conditions could be tweaked as well for the XEV 9E in Australia.
