New Axor MX Carbon Helmet

Vega Auto has just launched a new carbon fiber helmet with ADV or MX motorcycle form factor under its flagship brand, Axor. Called Axor MX Carbon, this helmet is the world’s lightest helmet with three certifications. The company is manufacturing this helmet at their Belagavi facility in Karnataka in Udyambag area.

Axor MX Carbon Helmet Launch

Where pricing is concerned, Vaga Auto’s new and updated Axor MX Carbon has been priced at Rs 20,060, which is quite reasonable in the world of carbon fiber lightweight helmets. The immediate competition is KYT Skyhawk, which is not only heavier at 1,200g, but is also pricier as it retails at Rs 27,000 and it is not as highly certified as the updated Axor MX Carbon.

Axor MX Carbon boasts triple certifications – ISI, DOT and ECE 22.06 and the headline figure is the 1,050g weight (±50g). There are four sizes on offer – M, L, XL and 2XL. When compared to the previous MX Carbon helmet, the updated model boasts improved shell technology consisting of a tri-composite material, making it lighter than before. It comes with ventilation, Double D-Ring fastener and compatibility with standard MX glasses.

The construction is predominantly 3K carbon fiber and Vega is using aramid fibers and aerospace grade fiberglass to form a tri-composite construction. The lighter weight helps in reducing the fatigue in rider on longer rides and even off-roading. The company has invested around Rs 2 Crores into their composite manufacturing capabilities.

The company has also increased the production capacity of their composite helmets, which is now at three times their capacity in the year 2020. It is currently Axor’s most expensive helmet and it is showcased in the carbon fiber weave pattern only. We wished there was a Forged version with chopped carbon fiber like there was with Apex lineup.

Statement from Vega Auto

“The engineering challenge with the MX Carbon was not simply to make a lighter helmet. It was to optimise the material, construction and manufacturing process to achieve a significantly reduced weight while meeting the required certification standards. At approximately 1,040 grams, the result reflects years of learning in carbon fibre and composite manufacturing. We see this as an important step towards bringing lightweight engineering into a wider range of helmet applications.” says Mr. Girdhari Chandak, Managing Director, Vega Auto

“We started our carbon fibre journey in 1998 with a long-term belief in the material and its potential to transform helmet engineering. The MX Carbon brings that journey together in a product that demonstrates what can be achieved when material expertise, manufacturing capability and helmet engineering come together. More importantly, it is a product designed and manufactured in India for riders who demand a high level of performance from their equipment. We believe this is an important step in showcasing the capabilities we have built in India over nearly three decades.” says Mr. Dilip Chandak, Chairman, Vega Auto
