New Yamaha FZ Flex Fuel Launched

Yamaha joins the growing list of manufacturers embracing flex-fuel technology in India with the launch of the new FZ Blue Flex motorcycle

India Yamaha Motor has launched the new FZ Blue Flex motorcycle at a starting price of Rs 1,24,240 (ex-showroom, Delhi). With this launch, Yamaha has entered India’s flex-fuel segment, introducing an ethanol-compatible version of its popular FZ commuter motorcycle. The new model has been developed in line with the Government of India’s push towards cleaner alternative fuels and ethanol adoption.

The FZ Blue Flex is based on the familiar FZ platform but features an engine capable of running on ethanol-blended fuel ranging from E20 to E85, offering significantly greater flexibility compared to regular petrol-powered motorcycles. In comparison, the regular version is priced from Rs 1,14,760, ex-sh.

Yamaha FZ Blue Flex – Engine And Features

Powering the new FZ Blue Flex is Yamaha’s proven 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected engine. The motor develops 8.6 kW of power (around 11.7 hp) and 12.8 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. In comparison, the regular petrol version delivers 9.1 kW (12.4PS) and 13.3 N.m.

The biggest update is its flex-fuel compatibility. Unlike conventional motorcycles designed primarily for petrol or E20 fuel, the new Yamaha can operate on ethanol blends from E20 all the way up to E85. Ethanol is considered a cleaner renewable fuel that helps reduce dependence on fossil fuels while lowering overall emissions.

Design Remains Familiar

Visually, the FZ Blue Flex retains the styling of the standard FZ range. It gets a full-LED projector headlamp with integrated position lamps, muscular fuel tank with aerodynamic extensions, faux air vents, compact exhaust, single-piece seat and LED tail lamp.

The motorcycle rides on telescopic front forks and a rear swingarm suspension setup. Braking duties are supported by ABS, enhancing rider confidence and safety. Yamaha will offer the FZ Blue Flex in a Metallic Black colour option. Initially, the FZ Blue Flex will be retailed through select Blue Square dealerships across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Yamaha Expands Its Sustainable Mobility Strategy

The launch marks Yamaha’s second major alternative powertrain initiative in India after beginning its electric mobility journey. By introducing flex-fuel technology, Yamaha is adopting a multi-pronged approach towards reducing emissions instead of relying solely on battery-electric vehicles.

Commenting on the launch, Hajime Aota, Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group, said that achieving carbon neutrality requires multiple technology pathways. He added that the introduction of Blue Flex technology aligns Yamaha’s global sustainability goals with India’s biofuel policies while offering products suited to evolving customer needs.
