2027 Hyundai Tucson Details Out – 245 PS Hybrid 1.6L, 17.4 Kmpl, Memory Reverse Assist

5th-gen Tucson can auto reverse from tight spots, identify wrong pedal application and open doors via a backup power source

After revealing the new Tucson last month, Hyundai has now detailed the engine specs and features on offer. 5th-gen Tucson will go on sale in Korea in October, when the prices will also be revealed.

New Tucson – Technology upgrades

One of the interesting and useful features is Memory Reverse Assist. New Tucson can remember how you parked into a tight space. It can then use that information and combine it with its own intelligence and sensor data to automatically reverse the vehicle out. There are new safety features as well such as Pedal Misoperation Safety Assist.

This advanced driver assistance system can detect if the driver has accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. In such cases, the system limits acceleration and applies emergency braking. This system is designed to auto-activate when the accelerator is pressed hard at a time when the vehicle is stopped or moving slowly.

Considering recent cases of doors not opening in the event of a crash, the new Tucson also gets a Door Unlock Power Redundancy feature. If power from the main battery is not available due to a crash or other malfunction, the doors can still be opened via a backup power source. This is likely to be a segment-first feature, depending on the market.

Another important tech upgrade for new Tucson is the Pleos Connect infotainment system. This setup comprises a large central touchscreen, with data displayed in multiple sections such as navigation, driving info and multimedia. Pleos also includes a small display panel on the dashboard for accessing readouts such as speed, range, etc.

Art of Steel exterior, larger dimensions

New Tucson has undergone a complete transformation based on the brand’s new Art of Steel design philosophy. The SUV has sharper lines and boxier presence, which have significantly enhanced its road presence.

5th-gen Tucson has also grown in size. It is now 4,700 mm long, 1,905 mm wide and has a wheelbase of 2,785 mm. With these numbers, new Tucson is 60 mm longer, 40 mm wider and has a 30 mm longer wheelbase.

These larger dimensions make the Memory Reverse Assist feature even more relevant. A bigger size has also ensured enhanced comfort for passengers. For context, the rear seat knee space is now 14 mm more.

Similarly, headroom has improved by 29 mm. Boot space has gone up by 22 litres. Rear doors now open wider at 83 degrees, as compared to 73 degrees earlier. This makes tasks like placing child seats and loading/unloading large items easier.

Performance boost

New Tucson is equipped with upgraded powertrain options in Korea. The 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine (Smartstream T-GDI) now generates 193 PS, which is 13 PS more than that of the outgoing model. Transmission has also been upgraded to an 8-speed automatic, as compared to the previous 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

Hybrid variants feature an improved powertrain that has combined system power of 245 PS. This is higher than the 230-235 PS of the previous generation hybrid Tucson. Fuel efficiency has also improved slightly, with the new-gen hybrid version rated at 17.4 km/l. New Tucson hybrid variants also get additional features such as Stay Mode and an upgraded regenerative braking system.

For now, there is no announcement about a diesel version of the new Tucson in Korea. There is no plug-in hybrid either, although this could be introduced in markets like Europe at a later date. Here in India, the new Tucson is expected to be launched in 2027.
