As the weather outside cools down the idea of having a boozy night in on the sofa starts to sound better than venturing out to a bar - it's even kinder on the purse strings. If you're looking for something stronger than a pumpkin-spiced latte this autumn then Aldi has an impressive range of wines and we got our wine expert to take a look.

Jada Jones has completed her levels 1, 2 and 3 awards in wine at the Wine & Spirits Education Trust and has tasted at least 150 wines this year alone. She took a look at Aldi's wine selection and pulled out a few that she thinks are worth rushing to your local store for.

Some wines seem to take inspiration from name brands on the market while others are simply just a good deal - here are her recommendations.

Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut is one of the most affordable champagnes on the market at £14.99. It's easy to turn your nose up at a supermarket champagne and assume it's not as good as the likes of Veuve Clicquot but that's simply not the case. In order to use the name champagne it has to be made using the traditional method (which gives it those bakery notes you can expect from this type of wine) and use exclusively chardonnay, pinot noir or pinot meunier.

It doesn't have to use all three and champagnes do vary in quality but you do come to expect a certain standard from any wine granted the champagne label. It won a bronze award at the International Wine Challenge, and judges said it had “floral palate, fresh with a little development but beautiful balance and restraint”.

I honestly think you'd struggle to find such a quality bottle at such a low price anywhere else. It's not the best champagne on the market, but it doesn't pretend to be. If you're looking for affordable luxury and to celebrate the little moments this is an incredible option - on Decanter tasters have said it has baked apple notes with a brioche or biscuit touch.

If you're looking for quality bubbles under £10 that's doable too. Crémant is similar to champagne as it's also made in the traditional method but it's made from grapes in a different region and doesn't have to be aged for quite so long. Aldi has two crémants on their shelves - one from the Loire Valley at £8.99 with notes of quince, acacia and honey and a slightly more expensive bottle at £10.99 from Jura.

Jura is a region of France that sits between the Swiss border and Burgundy. The Crémant du Jura is said to have toasted hazelnut notes alongside brioche, baked apple and some lemon. If you want to venture away from champagne and prosecco, I think crémants are a great way to experiment with bubbles.

It's not just bubbles that Aldi has though, there are quite a few wines that are turning heads for how reminiscent they are to others on the market. Notably The Reprobrates California Red, £8.99, which features a dog in a hooded jacket on the bottle bares a striking resemblance to Cali Red by Snoop Dogg - which features a picture of the rapper turned winemaker in a hooded jacket on the bottle.

The £10.99 Sainte Victoire Provence Rosé is also drawing comparisons to Whispering Angel, with the bottles even featuring a similar textured logo on them both. It wold typically cost £20.50 for Cave d'Esclans classic. Head to your nearest Aldi store to see the offerings for yourself and build up your autumn wine cellar. Please remember to drink responsibly.
