BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden shares disappointment as she gives health update

Amy Dowden confessed to feeling 'gutted' on Friday's Lorraine as she discussed her experiences with Strictly Come Dancing. The popular BBC One dance show is set to broadcast its eagerly awaited Blackpool Tower Ballroom special this weekend, an event that represents a significant achievement for the competing celebrities and their pro partners.

Last week, 34 year old Amy opened up about her sadness at having to pull out of the rest of the competition due to an injury to her foot.

The Welsh performer made her return to the series for its milestone 20th season after spending the previous year receiving treatment for stage three breast cancer. Back in February, Amy revealed good news stating she has "no evidence of disease".

Since Amy stepped away from the show, her celebrity dance partner, 37 year old JLS sensation JB Gill, has been paired with professional dancer Lauren Oakley, who will be joining him for the Blackpool contest, reports Wales Online.

During her appearance on Friday's episode of Lorraine, hosted by Christine Lampard, Amy expressed being 'gutted' about not being able to take part but hinted at promising developments for JB and Lauren. She said to the stand-in host: "It's the goal, everyone wants to make it to Blackpool there's something so special in there!"

With a sense of disappointment, she noted: "I'm just so gutted I won't be dancing there this weekend!" However, Amy showed her support by saying, "It's definitely not the way I wanted it but I'm so proud of JB, Lauren's doing a great job.

"Obviously I planned the series for him to have his best numbers towards the end to get him to that final as he's so talented. I've seen the quickstep, everyone's in for a treat, I think there's more tens coming!"

During an appearance on It Takes Two, Amy shared details of her Strictly departure: "I'm absolutely gutted, unfortunately I have an insufficiency stress fracture, if I've said that right, on my shin. Nothing to do with my injury last year, so yeah I'm just absolutely gutted.

"I need to rest for a couple of weeks so unfortunately JB has obviously got to continue, he's got the amazing Lauren. Hopefully I'll be back dancing in some capacity, maybe a group number by the end of the series fingers crossed!"

Clearly emotional during the interview, Amy was brought to tears and found solace in host Janette's comfort. Trying to hold back tears, Amy admitted: "Sorry, I'm heartbroken! Being back with the Strictly family was the best rehab."

Amy elaborated further, saying: "I'm just gutted but this injury could have happened to anybody. I want to stress it's nothing to do with any previous health scares or what I've been through. It's just one of those things, it happens!"
