GBBO's Prue Leith, 84, admits 'I'm near the end' as she makes surprise life confession
by Danny Gutmann · NottinghamshireLivePrue Leith, the esteemed judge from Great British Bake Off, has confessed that she's becoming 'more reckless' as she nears the end of her life.
Speaking to Bella magazine, the 84 year old suggested that she's embracing a more carefree attitude in her later years: "Because I'm so near the end, I'm a bit more reckless now. What's the worst that can happen? " She revealed that she's adopting a 'why not?' mentality towards things that seem like 'good fun'.
"If I was about to try to get a job on Bake Off I probably wouldn't walk down a catwalk in Latex with goth make-up on, but now it's too late. If I want to do it and it sounds like good fun I just think, 'why not? '" It was during London Fashion Week this September that Prue put her 'why not' philosophy into action when she made her first appearance on the catwalk.
She shared her unique experience walking the 20 metre runway for fashion label Vin + Omi: "Two days ago, I got dressed, well, barely dressed, in a skintight black latex number held together with corset-style red cord. I was here to march down a catwalk in front of 500 members of the press and public. " Despite initial nerves, she was encouraged by the audience's reaction: "But in spite of all that, I just loved it. The crowd could not have been kinder, whooping and hollering at the gallant old lady (84 and counting) giving it a go. I'm just such an egotist, lapping up the attention."
After enjoying success from its debut over 14 years ago, the show has consistently grown stronger, with Prue stepping in for Mary Berry in 2017. Yet, the esteemed baking judge confesses that departure is on her mind: "So I won't leave in a hurry, but I will leave some time because I'm getting ancient.", reports Wales Online.
