Nottinghamshire pub's Toy Story makeover complete with Buzz, Woody and a jail

The temporary revamp has attracted plenty of attention

Staff at a Nottinghamshire pub worked into the early hours to give the front of the building a Toy Story makeover.

The Royal Oak, in Radcliffe-on-Trent, was renamed Oak Story, and painted outside to resemble the iconic blue sky and fluffy cloud wallpaper in Andy's bedroom.

The look was completed with painted cut-outs of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Mr Potato Head, Jessie and Forky, once again all made by employees.

The bars of a jail and Buzz's Space Ranger box provided photo opportunities — and there's been plenty of those as passers-by stopped to admire the work

The makeover was for a competition celebrating the town's annual carnival, which this year had the theme of A Night at the Movies. Having outgrown the category for best window, the pub took first prize for best display.

The dedicated staff stayed until 4am getting the Royal Oak ready as a surprise for residents the next morning.

Chris Farman, landlord of the pub in Main Road, said: "The first two years we won best window display and then they decided it's not really a window display so they created a whole new category, which was lovely but it's encouraged so many of the other businesses to really push forward.

"The displays are getting bigger and people are going to more effort for them which was really nice. All of the staff volunteer their time.

"It brightens up Radcliffe. It brings so much joy."

The pub is now returning to normal and was being repainted its usual shade of dark blue — a task that takes around four hours.

In previous years the pub has been turned into a giant sandcastle, an insect garden, a gingerbread house, and the Mad Hatter's tea party.
