BBC Strictly Come Dancing viewers all have same opinion as Wynne Evans is sent home
by Jessica Sansome, Susan Knox · NottinghamshireLiveStrictly Come Dancing fans were in agreement as Wynne Evans and Katya Jones became the latest couple to leave the 2024 series. For the second week in a row, they found themselves in the dance-off, having narrowly avoided elimination the previous week.
This time, they were up against Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu in the bottom two. The show on Saturday, November 16, was a special episode broadcast live from Blackpool's iconic Tower Ballroom, marking Strictly's annual visit to the seaside town.
The evening, which celebrated the show's 20th anniversary, began with the professional dancers performing to a medley of Pet Shop Boys classics. The eight remaining couples then took to the famous sprung floor, with Wynne and Katya's Charleston featuring the opera singer enthusiastically swinging his partner by her feet.
Judge Anton Du Beke praised Evans' energetic performance of Georges Bizet's Carmen Suite No 1: 5. Les Toreadors, but noted that he appeared "exhausted towards the end of the dance".
Judge Shirley Ballas described their routine as a "Katya special", commending the ambitious lifts and moves, and deemed it "highly entertaining". The judges awarded them a score of 31 out of 40, reports the Mirror.
In Sunday night's thrilling episode on November 17, the competition heated up as Wynne and Katya once again found themselves in the daunting dance-off, marking a second successive week under the intense scrutiny of the judges and audience. They faced off against Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe in what was the show's eighth results show.
Both couples gave their performances one more go with Montell and Johannes performing their Salsa to Thelma Houston's 'Don't Leave Me This Way', and Wynne and Katya delivering their Charleston afterwards. In a unanimous decision by the judges, Montell and Johannes were saved, leading to Wynne and Katya bidding farewell to the series.
The choice resonated well with viewers, echoing sentiments that it was 'the right decision' amidst earlier controversies over Wynne and Katya being saved instead of Shayne and Nancy. One fan conveyed sympathy for Wynne but concurred with the outcome: "I really like Wynne and I think the hate he's had has been really unfair, but this week I think it was the right decision. Especially against Montell."
Another simply added: "Right result."
Mixed reactions continued from the audience, with one person commenting: "Right result but I've loved watching Wynne over the past few weeks. Absolutely not the best dancer but he put so much into it and the joy on his face every week put a smile on mine."
Compliments also came Wynne's way for his dedication, with someone asserting: "Well done Wynne on making it this far but it was the right decision."
