Rains in Mindanao due to ITCZ – Pagasa
by Josiah Antonio · philstarMANILA, Philippines — The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring rains in parts of Mindanao today, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil yesterday said Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Soccsksargen and Davao Region will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the ITCZ.
Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will be experienced in Visayas and the rest of Mindanao caused by the easterlies.
Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms will be felt in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA has not monitored any low-pressure area after the recent LPA, formerly Caloy, dissipated.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said around 41 areas hit the danger-level heat index.
Based on the highest heat index chart, Dagupan City, Pangasinan; Baler, Aurora; Cavite City; Cuyo, Palawan and Guiuan, Eastern Samar hit the highest at 45 degrees Celsius.
It was followed by San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; Roxas City, Capiz; and Butuan City at 44 degrees Celsius.
The Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City recorded 43 degrees Celsius along with Sinait, Ilocos Sur; Laoag, Ilocos Norte; Muñoz, Nueva Ecija; Subic Bay, Olongapo City; Hacienda Luisita, Tarlac City; Ambulong Tanauan, Batangas; Mulanay, Quezon; Coron Palawan; Pili, Camarines Sur; Dumangas, Iloilo; Catarman, Northern Samar; Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga City.
Meanwhile, the areas that logged 42 degrees Celsius are Batac, Ilocos Norte; Bacnotan, La Union; Casiguran, Aurora; Iba, Zambales; Camiling, Tarlac; Infanta and Alabat, Quezon; Los Baños, Laguna; Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; Daet, Camarines Norte; Virac, Catanduanes; Masbate City; Juban, Sorsogon; Iloilo City; La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental; Catbalogan, Western Samar; Borongan, Eastern Samar and Cotabato City.
A danger-level heat index ranges from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius.
Exposure to danger-level heat index with continuous activity may result in heat exhaustion or stroke.
