Baguio hits 10.6°C; amihan persists across Philippines

by · philstar

MANILA, Philippines — Baguio locals and tourists can brace themselves for a chilly day as the temperature hit 10.6°C on Friday, January 23.

Baguio’s temperature slightly dipped below the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) initial forecast of 11°C. The highest projected temperature of the day within the city could reach 22°C.

PAGASA attributed the chilly weather to the northeast monsoon winds, which is also affecting most of the country.

The second lowest temperature was recorded in Basco, Batanes at 16.2°C, followed by Tanay, Rizal at 16.3°C.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila is expected to have a breezy 22°C to 30°C.

With the northeast monsoon winds affecting most of the country, several areas are also expected to have cloudy skies and light rains, primarily in Cagayan Valley, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Apayao, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Aurora, Quezon, and Oriental Mindoro.

However, PAGASA said that these rains bear no significant impact.

PAGASA has also monitored a low pressure area outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. The weather system is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the day.
