Disney cancels cruise sailing abruptly after passengers already boarded ship

Disney Cruise Line has cancelled a scheduled sailing aboard its newest ship, the Disney Adventure, after a mechanical problem forced passengers to leave the vessel early in Singapore.

Passengers who boarded the ship on May 7 for a four-day cruise were asked to disembark after only one night onboard following an engine-related issue.

In a statement to guests, Disney said: “We deeply regret that we are unable to continue with your Disney Adventure experience from May 7-11, 2026.”

The company did not provide further details about the mechanical fault but confirmed that passengers would receive a full refund, an overnight hotel stay in Singapore, $500 for additional expenses and a $500 future cruise credit.

“The safety and comfort of our guests are always our top priority,” Disney added.

The Disney Adventure, which began operating earlier this year, is part of Disney’s wider plan to expand its cruise business and nearly double its fleet by 2031.

According to local media reports, passengers began hearing rumours about a possible cancellation shortly after boarding while engineers attempted to resolve the issue.

One passenger posting on Reddit described growing frustration onboard, writing: “Being almost 9 hrs now and we still don’t have our letter yet.”
