Man United open talks with Brighton over possible deal for Carlos Baleba: report

by · The News International

Manchester United have opened talks with Brighton over a potential deal for midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to ESPN.

United have contacted Brighton to establish their valuation of the 22-year-old as they consider adding another midfielder before the transfer window closes.

The club made a similar enquiry last summer, but Brighton reportedly demanded £100 million for Baleba and no deal materialised.

Sources told ESPN that United now believe Brighton could be willing to accept a lower offer. Brighton are reportedly prepared to sell Baleba if their valuation is met.

Baleba is currently recovering from an ankle injury suffered during pre-season.

The midfielder joined Brighton from French club Lille in 2023 and has since made 92 Premier League appearances during three seasons with the south-coast club.

United have already invested heavily in midfield this summer, spending a combined £85 million on Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans, who joined after three seasons with Aston Villa.

However, ESPN reports that United remain interested in adding a third midfielder to Michael Carrick's squad.

The club are also looking at options at left-back to provide competition for Luke Shaw.

Manchester United begin their new Premier League campaign away to newly promoted Hull City on Saturday.
