Suzuki has expanded its adventure bike lineup with the launch of the V-Strom 160, a more compact and accessible sibling to the popular V-Strom SX 250. Combining sporty aggression with sleek aesthetics, this new motorcycle is positioned as an entry-level adventure tourer and it could be a handy option for budget-conscious markets like India.
Powering the V-Strom 160 is a 160cc, SOHC, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine. This setup delivers an impressive 14.75 hp of peak power at 8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of maximum torque at 6,500 rpm. Paired with a 5-speed transmission, the engine is said to ensure smooth and responsive performance, making it ideal for urban commutes and light off-road adventures.
According to Suzuki, it is built to handle diverse riding conditions and features a sturdy frame with dimensions optimised for both comfort and control. It measures 2,025 mm in length with a wheelbase of 1,345 mm and offers a seat height of 795 mm, making it accessible to a wide range of riders. Weighing 148 kg, the Suzuki V-Strom 160 is light enough to manoeuvre easily.

The motorcycle gets a 13-litre fuel tank while the ground clearance stands at 160 mm. The braking duties are performed by disc brakes on both wheels supported by ABS system. The 17-inch wheels are fitted with tubeless tyres, sized 100/80-17 at the front and 130/70-17 at the rear. While the V-Strom 160 has been officially launched in Colombia, its entry into other markets, including India, remains uncertain.
If production were based in India, there could be potential for wider distribution but production in Brazil may limit its reach. Suzuki already sells the 155 cc Gixxer and Gixxer SF in India and it will be interesting to see if the same powertrain will be used if the motorcycle receives the green light for the domestic market.

With the Xpulse moving to the next generation with a 210 cc liquid-cooled engine and updated engine soon, it presents a good opportunity for other brands to dig deep into the entry-level adv space as the forthcoming Xpulse 210 will be slightly more expensive. A slew of new advs are lining up to debut over the next 12 months locally.
