Maruti Suzuki is preparing to make a strong entry into the electric vehicle market with plans to launch three new EV models within the next three years in India

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is said to be working on a trio of electric vehicles tailored for the Indian market with an SUV, an MPV and a hatchback reportedly in development. These new EVs are expected to debut within the next two to three years, marking the company’s strategic push into the growing electric segment in India.

Let us take a closer look at the essential details surrounding the three upcoming electric models from Maruti Suzuki:

1. Maruti Suzuki eVX:

Following its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo, the eVX concept underwent significant changes and was later showcased in a more close to production manner in Tokyo. Expected to enter the market in early 2025, the eVX is positioned to rival electric models like the Mahindra XUV400, the forthcoming Hyundai Creta EV, and the Tata Curvv EV. Built on a skateboard platform based on Toyota’s 27PL architecture, the eVX is expected to offer an impressive range of around 550 km.

2. Maruti Suzuki YMC MPV:

Maruti Suzuki is said to be working on its first electric MPV, internally codenamed YMC, which is expected to launch around 2026 in India. This upcoming model will be built on the same platform as the eVX midsize electric SUV. It is likely to come equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack, similar to the eVX, offering a claimed range of over 500 km on a single charge, making it a practical choice for families looking for an eco-friendly MPV.

The YMC is likely to pave the way for a Toyota-branded electric MPV, which could be launched around late 2026 or early 2027. Like the YMC, this Toyota model will be produced in India and exported to international markets, highlighting the growing synergy between the two brands. While this development showcases a significant step in their partnership, no official announcements have been made yet regarding the Toyota electric MPV.
