The Basalt EV could come with a range of 450km on a single charge to challenge the dominance of Tata Curvv EV in the Indian market

Citroen India launched the Basalt coupe-SUV in August 2024 in the country. Introduced at an introductory price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), it was offered only with a petrol engine to rival Tata Curvv. However, the latter also comes in an EV avatar and we have been hearing that Citroen Basalt EV is under development to even the odds with the Curvv EV. Recently, a few spy images have surfaced on the web of a completely camouflaged coupe-SUV which is purportedly the Basalt EV.

The spy images reveal that the Basalt EV will come with a few subtle tweaks over the ICE model. These updates are in the form of a redesigned front bumper, the absence of a front grille, and revised air dams. It could ride on newly-designed alloy wheels while the charging slot could well be at the rear fender. The EV version will also retain some of the key elements of the ICE model such as a wraparound LED tail-lamp cluster, sloping roofline, shark-fin antenna, flap-style door handles, high-mounted stop lamp and split headlights.

The cabin is also expected to be on similar lines as the petrol model, except for a new upholstery colour. It will carry modern and advanced features like automatic climate control, wireless Smartphone charging, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Citroen Basalt EV could use a 35kWh battery pack with a range of 450 km on a single charge. The battery could be paired to a single electric motor with a power output of around 100bhp. Though nothing is confirmed at the moment regarding the battery pack and range.

Tata Curvv EV is offered with two battery packs: 45kWh and 55kWh. The former is priced from Rs 17.49 lakh while the latter starts at 19.25 lakh (both the prices are ex-showroom). We expect the Basalt EV to have a starting price of around 14-15 lakh (ex-showroom) with heavy localization.
