Kia’s upcoming SUV, codenamed ‘Clavis,’ is set to expand the brand’s lineup, positioned just above the Sonet in India. The model, possibly named ‘Syros’ based on a recent trademark, has been seen undergoing domestic and international testing in recent months, highlighting Kia’s commitment to the competitive SUV segment.
The Kia Syros will compete directly with models like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Renault Kiger, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Nissan Magnite, Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter. Expected to feature various powertrain options over time, it may include hybrid and electric variants.
The sub-four-metre SUV will sport a distinctive upright rear with L-shaped lights integrated into the pillars, a high-mounted stop lamp, vertical LED accents above the bumper, a shark fin antenna, and an integrated spoiler. Drawing styling inspiration from the Kia Soul, this model is expected to offer a roomier cabin and a larger boot than the Sonet.

At the front, the Kia Syros will come with vertical LED lighting elements that also function as turn signals, paired with a distinctive clamshell bonnet design. The SUV will ride on newly styled 16-inch alloy wheels and include practical roof rails. Under the hood, it will feature the well-known 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering 82 bhp and 114 Nm of peak torque.
This 1.2L engine is expected to offer both a five-speed manual and an AMT transmission option, with a CNG variant potentially adding an economical alternative. For those wanting extra power, Kia may introduce a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine on higher trims, delivering 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque.

The Kia Syros will boast a long features list composing a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a matching 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a panoramic sunroof. It will also offer ventilated front seats, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, automatic climate control, ambient lighting, and a suite of connected features among other conveniences.
