The midsize SUV segment, spanning five- and seven-seater configurations, is gearing up for the entry of a slew of fresh contenders in 2025. Carmakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Renault and Nissan are readying new models, aiming to make a strong statement and secure a substantial foothold in this rapidly growing market.

Here’s a detailed look at the upcoming models set to shake up the midsize SUV segment:

1 & 2. 7-Seater Maruti Grand Vitara & Toyota Hyryder:

The three-row variants of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder are likely to make their debut in India in the first half of 2025. These models are expected to retain the 1.5L mild-hybrid and 1.5L strong hybrid petrol engines, with both manual and automatic transmission options available.

To distinguish the three-row variants from their five-seater counterparts, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will feature significant exterior updates. The overall length is expected to increase to accommodate the third-row seating, though it remains to be seen if the wheelbase will also be extended. These SUVs will also come with new features and technologies, including Level 2 ADAS.

3 & 4. New Renault Duster & Nissan Midsize SUV:

As several car manufacturers target the midsize electric SUV segment in 2025, Renault and Nissan are preparing to make a strong return to the midsize ICE market with new models. The next-generation Renault Duster and its Nissan counterpart are expected to be powered by small-capacity turbocharged engines and will be built on the highly localized CMF-B platform.

5 & 6. 7-Seater Renault & Nissan SUVs:

The new Duster and its Nissan sibling will be produced at the brand’s facility in Tamil Nadu and are expected to lead to the introduction of three-row variants as well. These models could be based on the recently launched Bigster, which is available globally. While the Bigster will feature a range of powertrain options, including hybrids, India is likely to focus on the engines set to power the upcoming Duster.
